Dog, child proof sofa that doesn’t leak forever chemicals, comfy and not mega bucks

Hello,

Currently thinking about getting a new sofa - hate leather - so shiny and slidey and well animal skin which isn’t my thing.

The dog will get on it and is a mud rug so nothing that gets dirty easily. I mean garden furniture would be most appropriate.

I have an ikea armchair with fake leather / suede stuff which is tough and I can wash it down and it just looks normal when it dries but it’s not fake leather - my parents got one of those and it peeled horribly.

I can’t afford a pricy mistake so has anyone got any recommendations of companies or better still a tough bugger sofa.

I doubt there's anything out there today that would fit the description of what you're looking for OP. Anything moderately priced especially is going to leak 'forever chemicals' from every part of it's construction. We have dcs, dogs and a cat and we were so lucky to acquire a pre-owned well-made sofa, which has held up incredibly well, never smelled ghastly from chems ( or anything else), is sturdy, comfy, durable, and wasn't costly. It's held up so well, compared to friend's new furniture. We usually throw on a fleece blanket when our animal friends join us, we must have had this sofa now for at least 12 years. We also have the genuine leather Ikea Poang chair, and with an added soft cushion on top, it's a favourite with our cat! Good luck with your search OP.

You know that is what I fear! I have been looking for second hand but haven’t found anything decent. Our other sofa is about 25 and going strong but that was over a few grand back then so will keep lasting with a bit of TLC. It does need recovering really hit throws will do until I care more!

I like the sound of your sofa - well done!

I think that the mainstream furniture shops today don't sell anywhere near the quality that they used to.
I don't remember exactly when we got ours but it has stood up so well and I dread the thought of getting a new one!
Even in the more expensive stores they're just not constructed as well or with as long-lasting fabric as the older ones were, unless you're willing to pay much more.
TBH our old one could, if we were that bothered about it, use recovering as the fabric on the cushions is getting a bit wavy, but we are cheap and cheerful here with our lovely dogs and cat, and I like getting new throws in different colours, to change up the theme!
Again good luck I know it takes a lot of looking hopefully you'll find just the right one!

How about an ikea one where you can wash the covers?

I will look in Ikea again but I have tried the washable covers before and eventually - despite careful washing - the covers shrank. I bought a spare set but the a
same happened and by then they had stopped doing the sofa. Think I gave up then!
