Nice pub just off the M4, Swindon to Newbury zone?

Hi - has anyone got any great pub tips, please? Criteria are:

Good food, but probably needs to be more traditional leaning
Easy parking
Not too noisy inside, as elderly relatives lose the conversation a bit, so preferably ‘carpet and curtains’ type, rather than bare wood.

Many thanks in advance …

What do you mean by 'just off the M4'? Are you looking for somewhere that is ideally only a few hundred metres off the motorway? Or would you be happy to drive say 3 miles off the motorway for the right place? Royal Wootton Bassett is a few miles from Junction 16 and there is a choice of pubs there. Salley Pussey's Inn is the nearest to Junction 16 in the Royal Wootton Bassett direction, but there is more choice if you go right into Royal Wootton Bassett.

Within a few hundred metres of junction 16 of the M4 is a pub called The Plough on The Hill. I've not been there, so can't recommend it, but I believe there are steps to navigate to get in to it, so it might not be suitable for elderly relatives.

Hungerford isn't too far off the M4 either and there would be a lot of old fashioned pubs to choose from there too.

‘Just off’ as in a few miles/easy access, drive straight in to a car park rather than town centre type thing - doesn’t have to be immediately off motorway. Hard of hearing the only issue, she is very mobile - just want to make sure she can hold the conversation.

Will look at your suggestions, thank you.

Pheasant at Shefford Woodlands (3 miles from junct 14 Hungerford).

Red Lion at Chievley (1/2 a mile from Juct 13 Newbury)

Harrow at West Ilsley (3 miles from Junct 13 north up the A34).

Those are the 3 probably easiest to get to from the M4 but there are others.

Forgot one!

Tally Ho at Hungerford New Town (it was "New" c 1600!) 1/2 a mile south of Junct 14.

I can recommend Sally Pussey's as mentioned by PP - been twice this year and couldn't fault the meals or service, reasonably priced too. The Plough on the Hill is nice but last time I went there (a couple of years ago) it was the bare wood style of decor

The Plough or New Calley Arms in Wanborough. Just off junction 15.

Thanks all. I think we'll probably try Sally Pussey's.

The crab and boar at Cheievely

Love the Crab & Boar, but we did that last time and it was just so echoey with the wood floors that she couldn't keep the conversation, hence looking elsewhere.

I wouldn’t.

Id drive the extra mile and go to either The Angel or The Five Bells in Royal Wootton Bassett

You're a bit too late - OP went to Sally Pussey's yesterday and liked it 😂
