Change.org setting up unasked for subscription

Almost exactly a month ago I donated £10 to a petition/campaign through change.org. Last night another £10 went out to change.org out of the blue. (I get notifications from my account whenever payments are made so noticed when this happened.)

I’ve tried to contact my bank but the department I needed to speak to was not open 🙄.

It looks to me as though change.org have either taken another payment using the card details I provided, or (more likely given the dates) set up a subscription I did not ask for.

So I wondered, has this happened to anyone else? I never even thought of this possibility when filling in my card details for the original £10- was I naive?

You'll have ticked (or not ticked) some box allowing this. They've probably been sneaky with their wording or their form or both, but it won't be a mistake.

Yep - a lot of sites do this these days sneakily making opting in somewhat hard to identify. My bank told me it’s called a ‘subscription scam’. Contact change.org in writing and say you want your money back and to cancel the subscription.

That’s infuriating! Will not be donating through them again.
