What weird things do you think about?

Like odd questions that keep you up at night…

My current one is, if grass isn’t really green (we just see it that way due to our eyes and brain - bees see it as purple) what does it really look like?

If colour doesn’t exist then what does the world really look like?

My brain is full of this shit, is it just me?

Well........as a kid i used to lie in bed thinking what is at the end of the sky, stars, solar system etc, used to imagine a big wall but then think what was at the other side of the wall 🤷‍♀️ 60 years on i still can't get my head around it.........🤔

There are other random thoughts so no........its not just you! Don't think I've ever grown out of the 3 year old ' but why' stage😂

Why doesn’t it only rain at night?

I used to do this but instead of a wall I thought it could be a fence (white picket one) with a sign saying end of space. But then I was like, that’s weird and get all confused, think about it even deeper, stress myself out because I didn’t understand it and then shrug it all off and move on.

I too often think about… What if our entire universe was just a speck of dust in someone else’s universe.

user1471453601 · 06/12/2025 00:43

@Mossstitch I used to think about this too. Until someone asked me if I also thought about it the other way round. Unearthing also get smaller to the extent that they can hardly be measured.

now I try not to think about either. My mind isn't big enough to understand infinity, inward or outward

To go further on this.... How do you know what you perceive to be "green" is the same as me or someone else...and there's no way to ever know!

This thread is going to set me off and therefore drive my husband mad with my ramblings 😂

Me and DH had a bit of an argument about this once! I think about it too, and when I mentioned it to him he just couldn't get his head round what I meant, no matter how many ways I explained it.

"But we both know it's green, if I perceived it as a different colour I'd say so!". He's a scientist so I was shocked he couldn't understand that when we both point to something we both label as green, it doesn't mean we're actually seeing the same colour.

I got really frustrated trying to explain it and he got annoyed at the suggestion he wasn't getting it 😆

I've had the seeing the colours the same thing discussion too many times to count!
Loys of crap swirls round in my head

Do animals have regional accents
Do animals give each other names in their own animal speak

Water confuses me. All the water on the earth is the same water that's been around since earth began so everytime I drink i can't help but imagine how many people my water has already been through

I could probably look these things up but prefer to give myself something to wonder over

I also can't tell if the voice I hear in my head when I'm speaking to myself is actually the voice I talk in or if it's a different voice and there's not really a way for me to find out

I can't help you on the others but regarding the animals, someone once told me that if a lion could speak English you wouldn't be able to understand it.

estrogone · 06/12/2025 03:25

Do animals speak in woof and miaow and neigh and squeak. Is that sound their language and can they speak the language from birth, or do they learn it from their parents. If they do learn it, what happens when puppies and kittens get taken away at 8 weeks. How do they learn their language?

How do we know some animals are colour blind? They can't tell us.

I think about bizarre things all the time. I am autistic and have ADHD so it's a wacky wonderful world up there.

Farticus101 · 06/12/2025 03:26

I was thinking about the children's books/ shows where an animal has a pet.

Duggee has an unclothed pet cat that presumably can't talk, but the other animals are larger, can talk, wear clothes and move like humans. What is with the one that is being kept as a pet in this supposedly free animal world? Is it a slave?

The animals keeping pets thing crops up surprisingly often and bothers me every time (e.g.Spot the dog visiting a farm!)

I have this thing where, when I’m listening to the 80s show on the local radio station in my car, I start wondering how many times in my life I have heard a song from my childhood like Uptown Girl, or All Night Long or some shite by Phil Collins.

I start trying to calculate it. When did the song come out, and how many hours per week did I spend in my mother’s car listening to the radio, and what age was I when I got a clock radio in my bedroom, and how often have I heard this song in taxis and on Co-op Radio etc

And then I get all philosophically agitated about whether a number of times I’ve heard the song objectively exists, and if it does, how will I ever know if my estimate is close? Who’s keeping score?

Like, if a tree falls in a forest, does it make a sound?

I can’t stop thinking about it and it drives me bananas.

If there’s a God, and I go to heaven, he’d better greet me at the pearly gates with my 80s soft rock lifetime listening stats, or I’ll be very disappointed.

I was very bothered by the question -can animals count ?. I used to go on and on about it to my husband. How does a mummy duck know if baby duckling number 8 doesn't come through the bridge etc ? Does the dog realise he's had four little pieces of cheese tonight and so on..my husband was convinced animals couldn't count..til one day he said he'd come across an article saying yes, lots of animals do count..Not up to thousands but up to a fairly low number, ( don't aka me what)..

And now I feel cheated out of the whole mystery..As if it was a lovely unexplored theme, but no, some pesky scientist has been passing treats across to rabbits and looking at their brainwaves and making little notes about it. I really think scientists should leave certain lovely thoughts alone.

About the voice in our heads, I had never considered it could be different to how I hear it when I speak aloud. What an amazing idea! I'm going to ponder on that one :)
