Uber Eats - 2h waiting time, 10+ drivers cancelled

Did this happen to anyone else? I ordered, got an expected delivery time, driver gets assigned, then cancels, delivery time moves back by a few minutes, new driver assigned, cancels…this kept happening for over 2 hours, after about 2.5h from the time I placed the order, it just disappeared from my app, no refund.

And no food, obviously…not that lunch at 4pm would have been that useful anyway

Asda grocery order?

Where abouts are you ? Sounds like a problem specific to your locality. We’ve only experienced proper problems with takeaway delivery around the time of the Covid lockdowns, or sometimes if there’s a big footie match on TV.

Afternoons can be quite difficult sometimes for Uber drivers in general though as a lot of them are tied up with regular school taxi runs. And where I live a lot of them are visiting the mosque around Friday lunchtime.

Are you sure that the place is open? The only time ive experience that was when a shop was actually shut but hadn't updated uber

NeighbourProblems3 · 05/12/2025 17:52

Hmm, it was a restaurant not too far away, it’d be surprised if it wasn’t open…and it was 1.30 when I ordered, usual lunch time and there’s nothing else that’s odd, it’s not even bad weather where I am (London).

But also, it’s rather annoying that Uber doesn’t inform you after let’s say an hour max if there is an issue, and doesn’t give an option to cancel.

I had this recently. I ordered something at 7.30pm and by 9.30 it wasn’t there and I wanted to go to bed, but they wouldn’t cancel it on the app. I also tried getting an Uber recently and it was constant pick ups and cancellations until after an hour I gave up waiting and walked home.

and I’m in London. It never used to be like this. Is there a shortage or drivers?

LeftBoobGoneRogue · 06/12/2025 17:37

I’m in London and yesterday evening I placed an order with Just East and it came over an hour late. When it was 3/4 hour late I called the restaurant and they said the food had been ready for ages and they were waiting for the driver to collect. The app said the driver had been at the restaurant for 50 minutes waiting for the food. The restaurant said that Uber and Deliveroo have more drivers. No more Just Eat orders from me.

ComfortFoodCafe · 06/12/2025 17:41

I had this with just eat the other month, took 2 bloody hours! food was freezing cold by the time it got here and its only 5 miles away! I just drive & collect now.

I was thinking to use another app in future but there seem to be problems everywhere. I left Deliveroo because on one occasion the driver marked my pizza as delivered but I never got it and the tracking showed that they were nowhere near my address. But that was a few years ago now, I might give it another go since Uber was so bad (it was the first time that I ended up without food, but it took over an hour on an couple of other occasions recently).

This has happened to me once. I asked one of them why all them were cancelling and if they could tell me why before canceling if they had to. They said if they cancel it means it was picked up already and to call the store. They canceled so I called the store and they said the first delivery person had picked it up. So basically they picked the food up and ate it but dropped the order. Leaving it to just keep getting sent over and over. Luckily the place was nice enough to remake it and send it with someone new.
