Is anyone else not feeling Christmassy?

I have my decorations up and children who are excited. Moving the elves every day etc but I just don’t feel Christmassy yet. Anyone else feel the same? The other night I had a Bailey’s but even that didn’t put me in the mood Sad

I'm struggling this year. I separated from my husband in March this year, so it's my first Christmas alone.

I bought myself a Christmas Tree and a couple of light up gnomes for the mantlepiece. I put them up a couple of days ago and it does look cosy, but my heart really isn't in it.

I am going to my parents on Christmas day, but I think that's the only plan I have at the moment.

ConnieHeart · 05/12/2025 12:03

Not really but I wouldn't really expect to for another couple of weeks. When I finish work on 19th I might feel it then! I generally don't get excited about anything until at least a few days before

Fightingdragonswithyou · 05/12/2025 12:09

Not in the slightest.
Its the first Christmas without my mum and I just want to hide away tbh.
DD usually loves it but this year she's too sad 😔

Honestly no, I’ve been over Christmas for a long time. I do it for my child obviously and try my absolute best to get excited for them, but I find it a stressful time for several reasons.

im always delighted when it’s over!

I actually watched a YouTube video the other day. It was a compilation of nostalgic Christmas tv adverts from the 80s and 90s. It made me really sad.

NorWouldI · 05/12/2025 12:20

It's still weeks away! I love Christmas, but I've got a lot of things that need significant thought and effort between now and then.

TheThingsYouDoForLurve · 05/12/2025 12:27

I never feel Christmassy - it’s a skill I’ve perfected over many years! I ignore it all, it’s wonderful!

CandyCaneKisses · 05/12/2025 12:28

Not at all. There’s too much to do and it takes the fun away.

cramptramp · 05/12/2025 12:30

Me. But that’s because it’s only the 5th December. I wouldn’t expect to feel Christmassy until a lot nearer Christmas.

Ladybird69 · 05/12/2025 13:02

Me! And I usually love Christmas 😢 I have hung 3 strands of tinsel and that’s going to be it this year!

RyanFudgingMurphy · 05/12/2025 15:29

I’m not, but never do. I’m on my own now, I’m working through the holiday and DD is spending Christmas with her dad. Apart from a pantomime and a pre-Christmas buffet with my parents I’ve nothing planned. My DD will visit from uni the weekend before, so I put up a tree and buy some nibbles but that’s it.

The only thing I like about Christmas is giving everyone a thought-out gift to say thank you for their support over the past year.

i saw some Grinch baubles in Primark last week and was tempted!

Jellycatspyjamas · 05/12/2025 15:44

No, my kitchen is being refitted and the house looks like someone picked it up and shook it. I’ve done no Christmas shopping because I’ve been organising the bloody kitchen so it’s going to be a rush. Work is a complete pain in the arse and I have a cold. Right now Christmas can fuck off.

RaininSummer · 05/12/2025 15:48

Too early to feel Christmassy I think. After 20th it starts to feel like that

shellyleppard · 05/12/2025 15:50

Not really feeling it yet. I've put the decorations up but not bothered with the Christmas tree yet, nor have I wrapped any presents up. Just feel flat

MarcusRashvest · 05/12/2025 17:09

I completely feel this despite being an obsessive Christmas fan and faking it for everyone else.

I think there’s a combination of factors involved:

1.) it feels like everyone, and me included, is far more conscious of their health, so the indulgence of yesteryear doesn’t happen like it used to, combined with the fact that food treats were more of a rarity, but it feels more readily available now.

2.) I feel very conscious of the environmental impact and did not used to worry about that as much

3.) most people seem to buy what they want when they want it nowadays, so it’s a drain trying to think of gifts, and things rarely seem special

4.) ages of my children; they’re tweens and still super excited, but it isn’t the same as when they were little and there’s no naps or early bed times anymore, so Christmas planning / wrapping feels like a chore that is squeezed into hours I simply don’t have / don’t have the energy for

Sorry for long essay, but it’s been playing on mind a lot and I miss the “good old days”!

JustAboutMuddlingThrough · 05/12/2025 17:49

Haven’t felt Christmassy since I had my 2nd miscarriage on Christmas Day 2018

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/12/2025 17:52

My FIL died a fortnight ago, so we have to travel a long, long way for the funeral, the week before Christmas, so I am just too stressed about the whole thing to feel festive at all. Plus there is a list of stuff that needs to be done for the funeral, and that obviously takes precedence over Christmas stuff, so I’m fretting g about getting everything done.

tinyspiny · 05/12/2025 17:56

Well I’m going to buck the trend and say I do feel Christmassy . I love the run up to Christmas, always have . I’ve been playing Christmas music in the car for over a week , all our trees are up and I’m thoroughly enjoying myself . Last year we had a very difficult Christmas as our elderly dog died unexpectedly in November and although we still miss him desperately I’ve made my peace with it a bit now .

Christmaschristingle · 05/12/2025 20:40

No not yet !
I'm wrapping presents tomorrow and after that cleaning the house ready for it.
I think it will take me another week at least
I'm hoping all this rain clears away.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 05/12/2025 20:44

It's because it's not Christmas yet. It's only the 5th of December. Christmas isn't for anther 20 days! I think you're just normal!
