My best guess: “Blue (Da Ba Dee)” by Eiffel 65 (1999)

If that’s not it, here are a couple of other possibilities with similar nonsense-syllable hooks from the 90s:

  • “Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop)” – Scatman John (1994)
  • “Freed From Desire” – Gala (1996) — the “na-na-na” hook
  • Was the singer male or female?
  • Was it upbeat/dancey or more pop/rock?
  • Any words that weren’t gibberish?

Definitely not blue da ba dee and none of the other either.

It might even be older than 90s!

I actually suspect that the do e do a bit is a mans name (like Dewey).

It's a band/ group and there's instruments like a saxophone or something. It's upbeat but not dancy.

It was definitely in a movie but not like the title track, more in a scene where people sang along.

I appreciate it being really hard!

Tom Pettys “Louie Louie” maybe

  1. Do Wah Diddy Diddy” — Manfred Mann (1964) — very close to your “dubby doo” line: the chorus goes roughly “Do-wah-diddy-diddy-dum-diddy-do.” It’s a male group, upbeat, often features brass/sax in covers/arrangements, and turns up in movie scenes where crowds sing along
