DS (age 20) has an online interview for a very competitive office-based graduate job today.

He's wearing a smart shirt, but wondering if he should also wear a tie.

Does anyone know? Online interviews are a mystery to me, they didn't exist when I was applying for jobs!

thank you

I would encourage him to wear a tie, purely because it looks smart in my opinion. But I'm old lol 🤣🤣

Is he wearing a suit?

Is he wearing a suit?

It's online so he's just wearing a smart white shirt. No jumper. He doesn't own a suit or a jacket unfortunately.

I am in my 60s so no doubt out of touch but I would definitely say tie, especially if it’s in a traditional sector (rather than something arty or a bit more alternative).

It shouldn’t make any difference what he wears, but a tie will help create a good impression of someone who wants to be taken seriously.

I would, better to be over dressed than under dressed in such scenarios IMO. I've been shocked at how casual some folk have come into our office for interviews but the ones in shirts / ties / suits definitely give a better impression, even if we don't dress like that on a daily basis in the office.

Thanks all. He wore a tie!
