Anyone know what this insect is?

Just that really. It's the second one I've found in the kitchen. (There is a shed the other side of one wall and I've seen one in there as well).
So far just squashed the ones I've seen, but maybe I need to spray something somewhere? Don't really want them around whatever they are!

Ukholidaysaregreat · 03/12/2025 20:05

They look nice. Just put them outside.

Thwart · 03/12/2025 20:09

Why squash them? So unnecessary.

NetballHoop · 03/12/2025 20:09

That looks exactly like my friend Alexander. Please be nice to her/him.

Oh, and don't let nanny anywhere near the beetle.

MsWilmottsGhost · 03/12/2025 20:14

Why the fuck would you squash them?? 🤦

They are beneficial wildlife. Just put them outside ffs.

Tammygirl12 · 03/12/2025 20:17

Don’t kill it. Let it out

Flannelfeet · 03/12/2025 20:20

😱 I would need to move out, but im scared of wee bugs 😔. I dont kill them though, husband rescues them 😵‍💫

JellyTotsAreYum · 03/12/2025 20:32

Thanks for telling me what they are...so no squashing in future, gotcha

Yes just ground beetles looking for somewhere to see out the winter. Not a beetle that will cause damage to anything or anyone. Perfectly understandable you don’t want them in the house though! If you can just relocate them it would be kinder than ending their lives 🙏

fabricstash · 03/12/2025 21:06

Looks a bit like a vine weevil. V bad for container plants

@fabricstashweevils have longer snouts :)

fabricstash · 03/12/2025 21:13

Yes I wondered - hard to tell from the OPs photo

FairViewRosie25 · 03/12/2025 21:17

This. Can’t abide people who kill animals.
