Loss of sense of smell - COVID symptom still?

I had a bad cold last week and over the weekend and I'm now much better but have no sense of smell whatsoever. Seriously can't detect a scent in anything. Is this still regarded as a COVID symptom (sorry, my phone will still insist on capitalizing that) or could it be an after-effect of a more normal cold? Nothing I can do about it either way but just wondering if this means it was actually COVID I had?

It is, yes. But it can happen after any upper respiratory infection, so may not necessarily mean COVID. Just a nasty bug of some sort.

Why would it not still be a symptom? Covid hasn't changed that much!

Could be flu have just been reading about predicted worst flu season in a decade. I was quite unwell with resp.symptoms and fever a few weeks ago and tested negative for covid

I was asking whether it was exclusively a symptom of COVID.
