it's lovely but quite uninspiring (a bit like Alan?) Even the gardens seem to be mainly lawn.

also, what is the weird library room about? Looks oddly staged.

WineBeforeWhine · 03/12/2025 09:12

Maybe staged for the sale, photos etc?

It’s perfect. I can’t find one fault.

I think it's pretty naff. I thought the gardens would be more interesting.

The Wisteria is magnificent however the grounds look rather 'over done' to me, too crowded and rather prissy. The house is wonderful but the decor is very dated.

Leafy3 · 03/12/2025 09:31

Disappointed there's no decking

goldtrap · 03/12/2025 09:38

Lovely. It's like your parents' country house 101 - down to the steps up to the bath.
A lot of topiary going on, but the effect is very pleasing, as is the rill. I'm sure it has an amazing kitchen garden, would have been interested to see that.
Is the statue on the terrace of himself?!
It's like a reverse tardis. Lot of outside house but smaller inside. I see a loft conversion and a big airy glass extension to the kitchen in its future.

SeaAndStars · 03/12/2025 09:39

I wonder where he's going and if he'll make a new garden.

booksnbaking · 03/12/2025 09:47

In photo 16, the bathroom designers clearly ran right out of ideas before the end. Is that toilet even plumbed in?

How do you know it’s his house? I’m very surprised that detail would be disclosed re security etc with him being in the public eye

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 03/12/2025 09:57

Yep, I'll have it, and I'll fill the library with real books and let all the topiary go wild. And paint all the rooms bright colours. Put a traffic cone on the statue. And...and...😂

There are multiple articles about it online - he's probably moved out already, or it will have really good security. People do tend to know where local famous people live anyway, it's likely not a secret. (My friend walks her dogs in the fields behind Monty Don's house.)

I think it's lovely, the decor is in keeping with the house - it would look terrible modernised. I would perhaps do away with the frills and most of the patterns, but the basics are lovely.

The gardens are beautiful but I'm also puzzled by the lack of plants. I can see a couple of borders, and a well stocked greenhouse, but that appears to be it? Unless perhaps they're hidden by the trees.

Norugratsatall · 03/12/2025 14:32

Interesting. An article by him in this month’s Gardener’s World mentioned he was moving - to a new build! Where there’s no green house apparently.

its a lovely property, yes some of it is dated and it’s far too big for us. The topiary would do my head in tbh. But that greenhouse is amazing! I’m retiring next year and want a greenhouse so I can aspire to something like this.
