Does anyone know how this could have happened?

I ordered an item of clothing (a jacket) about a month ago from a well known shop online. I used my own account and my Apple Pay.

I really liked it and I asked dh to order me another one the same, which he did. He ordered it from his account/email address and paid on his Apple Pay.

When it arrived, I changed my mind, because a different colour had gone on sale. Dh created a returns label from his own account and returned it. It was 100% the jacket that he had ordered because I’d already worn the item I o bought. It was returned in the packaging it arrived in with the returns label that Dh had created on his account.

Yet somehow, I’ve now had an email and notification and I’ve been refunded. Via my shop account and to my Apple Pay.

It’s not really a problem for us, but how could that happen?

I'm going to guess that when they processed it details came up for the address and they selected the wrong one by mistake.
I just had an issue where I got a Giftaid letter for my donations to a charity shop and it was addressed to my ex who used the charity shop 10 years ago, as our details were next to each other on the database.
