Whats on your shopping list for Christmas week?

What are your non-negotiables?

For me, we need nice bread, crackers, a ham, pickles and cheeses for Christmas eve.
Christmas day is the dinner obviously, but needs pigs in blankets, yorkies, and paxo. Regardless of what meat we are having.
Boxing day is all of those leftovers but the snacks that we always need are:

Twiglets
Cheese footballs, with the soft fake cheese inside
Stollen
Terry's chocolate oranges
After eights
More cheeses and cracker selections

What is it just not christmas without, in your house?
I'm sure I've forgotten some things in my list.

Bread sauce and Brussel sprouts. Without them its just a roast not a Christmas dinner.

Cheese clearly very important as well.

And sherry. I bloody love sherry.

I might do peas but I've dropped out the veg the last couple of years. Its only me and DH and the best bits for us are the meat, the potatoes, pigs, yorkshires, stuffing and gravy, so thats all we bother with now.

Brandy butter, Match Makers, panettone, clementines or satsumas, mulled wine

Opening the tin of Roses on Christmas Eve and pinching all the purple ones, sprouts with bacon bits with Christmas dinner. A Fererro Roche homemade cheesecake for afters as we don't like Xmas pud then a honey roasted ham, pickles and proper chips on Boxing Day.

Cheese, cheese and more cheese! Oh and pigs in blankets, sausage meat stuffing, 73 different veggies (or at least it feels that way!). I always do far too much so we can have cold meats and bubble and squeak! I love all the prep for Christmas dinner! Did I say cheese? I won’t be counting calories on Christmas Day or Boxing Day so I’m going to really enjoy everything!

Bread sauce. I wouldn’t care if there were no pigs in blankets or roast potatoes (although everyone else certainly would!) but there must be bread sauce!
Other essentials
After Eights
Pickled cornichons
Extensive cracker selection (not the pulling kind)
Lemon sorbet

White port and smoked almonds.
Cheese and biscuits must include Cornish Wafers.
Jus rol croissant type things.
Real coffee and slightly nicer than normal tea.
Something to mull. Anything that stands still long enough gets mulled.
Twiglets.
Dates and clementines.
Nice salted butter for dressing veg.
Some dessert for the heathens that don’t appreciate Christmas pudding.
The makings of a Massive Salad as by the 27th I’m gasping for one.
Loads of 9p veg to make enough soup and casseroles to see me through to Easter.
Random joint of meat that DH will batch cook into something that turns out badly and hogs all the freezer space till kingdom come because he won’t eat it but knows if he bins it I’ll kill him after running round on Christmas Eve for fresh coriander because he WILL NOT learn to drive or participate in the shopping list
Crisps.

Georgiepud · 02/12/2025 20:22

Smoked salmon.
Cheeses.
Mulled wine.

Topbird29 · 02/12/2025 20:24

I try to get a box of Elizabeth shaw mints - my nan always had these at xmas so temi ds me of her. She also had the jelly fruit slices- we don't do those!
And always a Terry's chocolate orange in the stocking (although don't taste as nice now).
Otherwise pigs in blankets and Yorkshires for the kids. I always like a cold turkey, cranberry sauce and stuffing sandwich, and have to have some xmas pudding with double cream!

VineandIvy · 02/12/2025 21:45

My homemade stuffing loaf for Christmas Day with damson jam in the loaf. It really is lovely.
Nice bread for Christmas dinner toastie sandwich with gravy dip on Boxing Day.
Lots of cheese and cured meats for a picky platter.
Shloer as I don't really drink.

Any chance of a recipe for the stuffing loaf with damson please?

Not sighted any cheesy footballs yet, so that's me down hearted for the festive period! I know my essential sherry is being gifted, cream I'm afraid not the sophisticated dry. It is just so soothing. Posh custard, yoghurt, bread (olive, cranberry type), picadilli - sp??

of course! Just saw this. so l use a 1lb sleeve of pork sausage meat from butchers. 1LB blitzed breadcrumbs with parsley and sage, 1 XL large white onion softened in butter with garlic, Itsp mustard, 3/4 of a jar of damson jam, salt and pepper and one egg. Mix together and throw into a loaf tin, cook covered for 30-40 minutes 180 x

shellyleppard · 06/12/2025 22:51

@Roystonv cheesy footballs are in Iceland and home bargains....and my Christmas snack box lol

shellyleppard · 06/12/2025 22:54

Proper Scottish shortbread, tins of roses or quality street. Braised red cabbage with the Christmas dinner....but it will be on repeat all day 💨💨 little bowls bowls of crisps and quality street/roses dotted around the front room to nibble on while dinner is cooking. Part baked baguettes/crusty rolls for tea about 8pm ❤️❤️❤️
