Do smoke alarms have to go on the ceiling?

It is not really convenient as we have really high ceilings. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Some can be wall mounted, but not all. Check them carefully to ensure they are compatible with the location you are after.

The best position is fairly central, on the ceiling.

Will your local fire brigade come and do an assessment for you? Ours will, but not sure if it's a national thing or not.

No, they wont unfortunately.

Not as inconvenient as having reduced time to escape because your smoke alarm wasn't mounted high enough to be set off by early smoke.

Smoke rises. It makes sense for them to be st the highest point to give you as long ss possible to get out.

Heat (smoke) rises so, yes, on the ceiling is where it should go. Also, make a note of airflow and install it in a draft. You want to pick up any problems as soon as they happen.

To work - yes. Smoke rises. Watch some fire safety videos and you’ll see how it moves.

Over a kitchen work surface can work well. Then can stand on the work surface to change.

You also now get ones with ten year batteries.
