Just remember DS9 has Victorian Day dress up tomorrow. I have nothing, no waistcoat or cap at home. I will fail this one, am I?

If it's tomorrow can you get to a charity shop today, most would have some bits that would work such as a waistcoat and cap?

That will be fine. Better than a school uniform. There's honestly no need to buy something else if you already have something that will work.

He can be a rich Victorian gentleman in his black suit. Tie something dandy at his neck. Fashion a top hat from cardboard.

Why should it be brownish? Grey was also common, and I think he'll just be happy to be dressed up so black would be fine too. Should be shorts rather than trousers. If you have access to a local or work facebook or whatsapp group, ask on there to see if anyone can lend a cap or waistcoat.

I used to work in a museum which did dress up for Victorians and WW2. We saw a huge range of outfits. One of the best was a chimney sweep made of a tatty old shirt and shorts plus 'soot'.

Could you ‘distress’ a pair of shorts or cut up a too short pair or trousers (either your own or ask around for anyone who might be looking to pass on some trousers), soot up a shirt and send him as a chimney sweep?

Old school shirt, old school trousers.

Cut the collar off the shirt.
Cut the legs off the trousers at knee length in a raggedy fashion
Tank top/cardy/ knitted jumper?
Mucky up his face with mud/compost
/coal/kohl etc
Long socks (football, welly, walking etc)
If no cap, wooly beanie or something

Anything will do. Just the fact they aren't in school uniform and you didn't forget is enough. You don't need a cap or a waistcoat. Just the fact your kid turned up is enough. Distress the t-shirt with a couple of cuts and some stains from a cup of tea!

Oh yes - he can go as Isambard Kingdom Brunel!

Anything black or brown will do … cardigan or jumper, maybe one of yours so it’s too big.
Messy hair and some dirt on face, use face paint or dark eye shadow.
