Side hustles that make you money

Anyone have a side hustle that makes decent money? By decent I mean NMW or above, not £50 a month on Etsy selling crocheted hats.

I only did it briefly (was homeless and needed some extra funds for Christmas presents for my kids lol). But I did only fans. First month I think it was about 600, second month about 500. I did it anonymously so had to use like reddit to promote it which is quite hard to do. Men liked sending photos and paying me to degrade them. Truly baffling what people spend their money on.

There are niche 'sexual services'.

Yep there’s a creator on Tiktok who showed a video of how she turned a 50p tin of peas into £250..

Netball umpiring. Loads of demand, and can be £15 or £20 per game, depending on qualification level, but it’s very physical, and mostly evenings and weekends, so not something you can make a living from in itself.

No, that’s Amazon affiliate. That’s where you push your followers onto Amazon …. They buy, you get commission. Amazon Influencer programme is new to the UK and essentially you just talk about products you already own, upload the video to Amazon and it gets put into the product page of that item. If people watch your video on that product page and then buy it - you get 2-6% Commision on the purchase price … I don’t know if your allowed to link things on MN. www.amazon.co.uk/shop/eastsussexsmallholders

But where do you talk about the products and to who? Do you have a massive following?

I use 5 main panels but my favourite one is Swagbucks which gives you a 300 point boost when you earn 300 in the first 30 days. That's where I get most of the product trials and communities that are great to earn through
https://www.swagbucks.com/profile/MooWinner?rp=3
and also You Gov which is slower but easy to do surveys and look under the connections tab as there's lots of ways to make money there too

Happy to answer any questions as I have been doing them for years so know these two well.

Thank you so much.

I have a spare bedroom l use as a sewing room and do alterations... taking curtains up .. or hems on dresses/ trousers etc.
Word of mouth really.. but l pay insurance in case l damage people's items.. but l can make @£300 a month on average.

bleakmidwintering · 02/12/2025 00:11

@Hohumdedumwhat negative aspects have you encountered with this? It’s crossed my mind for the future to do this as we have 4 bedrooms but unsure.

Not many so far. Most of our guests are single businessmen who keep themselves to themselves and aren't very demanding.

Only a few people have ever wanted to cook beyond using the microwave. I do offer breakfast and take pride in the food on offer but probably only about 25% of people want it!

Maybe different if you're in a touristy place, I've found they are more effort but also much more likely to be friendly and chat.

Increased house insurance obviously but mine allows me to rent out 90 nights free.

The spare room is close to ours, so we don't feel comfortable...making noise... when we have guests.

I do feel like I'm forever cleaning the spare room!

Eldest rides horses to a reasonably high level (AM dressage, show jumping 130), and charges £20-30+/hour to ride/school other peoples horses when she needs extra money. Did it all through Uni, all by word of mouth recommendation. Is lightweight so also does ponies which is a big draw as they can be naughty for kids who cannot ride too well. Does not tend to do bringing in, grooming, although may tack up if the owner isn't about. Wouldn't do general yard chores (mucking out, feeding etc) as that's too badly paid and much harder work. Also teaches and clips horses.

I've just gone part-time - am old and want to retire. Some of my contacts have discovered this and I've been offered £900 a day for a bit of advisory HR work. Gobsmacked. Not doing it btw.

Am interested in the HR advisory work. Were you approached through your networks or did you apply?

Where would I look for this?

Primary school tutoring. £30 an hour. I know a girl a qualified teacher who tutors every evening after school for 3 hours and 4 hours Saturday and Sunday mornings starting at 8am.

Do you know what subjects and are the pupils dyslexic or something 🤔 and need extra help?

Hi @wavingfuriously I'm in N Ireland and many kids here do the transfer test ( new version of 11+)in P7 Year 7. Many of these kids get tutored for a year or 2 beforehand. The focus is on maths and English.

PiggyPokkyFool · 04/12/2025 15:14

@Advocodo @TomorrowIsANewDay28 @Carzycat Are any of you 29 or younger? The perfume place I have been testing for ( that I got through Swagbucks) are recruiting new members under 29 years old.
If so, then send me a message and I'll get them to contact you.

I publish books on Amazon using KDP. They aren’t novels/stories, think things like puzzle books, colouring books etc.

I am having a bash at creating a non reading book via KDP. I have gone niche in the hope that drives some interest! Let's see how I get on. Thanks for the idea. I didn't realise how accessible it was if you are comfy around the tech!

Do you mean books? Or copywriting?

If the latter, don’t bother. I’ve been a freelance copywriter for 15-16 years and AI has just killed the industry. I’ve always had clients queuing up for my services, but last week my last client - a huge US copywriting agency - folded. My copywriting paid the bills as DP is disabled so it’s a big blow.

There’s almost no copywriting work out there. And what there is, thousands of out-of-work copywriters are fighting for. I’m utterly devastated and what’s worse is that AI isn’t even very good! But it’s good enough for what people want. Plus it’s instant and free.

This is why I’m looking to move into writing books. I’m also considering a blog but I’m sceptical that it will make any money. I suspect I’m 10-15 years too late to hop onto the blogging trend.

RollOnSunshine · 07/12/2025 19:14

What do you do for your main job?

singlemum2025 · 07/12/2025 19:30

I clean and earn £20- £25ph and also have dog sat for some of my cleans. It’s quick money, I quite enjoy just putting on my headphones and like cleaning and switching off so to speak so suits me well.

Yes I meant books. I used to blog years ago and had a fairly good following, I think the blog days are long gone though. I really enjoyed it though.
