Hosted a live quizz and felt so embarrassed

Just a rant!

I am a really shy, socially awkward and boring person. English isn’t my first language, and I don’t know how to bounce off a conversation. I am very aware of that.

There’s this man that does live quizzes online every night. I join his quizzes every night and interact (by message) along with a small group of regulars.

Yesterday, he asked one of the regulars to co-host the quizz and prepare a series of questions that everyone including him would answer, she prepared 20 questions and it went really well, everyone was responding very well and he looked like he was having fun.

He asked me to host today’s quizz and I was reluctant at first (you have to use your microphone and, on top of what I mentioned above, I have a strong French accent that can be hard to understand), but he insisted it would be fine, so I thought why not, could help with my self-confidence, and said yes.

I prepared 10 questions, I wanted it to keep it short and sweet.

At first he said it was very short and that he would try to drag it a bit to make it last longer.

Only 8 or 10 people joined the live, only a few replied, he looked so uncomfortable and painfully bored, he asked the public why no one was reacting and replying and where everyone went.

He rushed it, then, at question number 8, he asked me how many more left to go.

I know it’s not a big deal, but I felt and still feel so embarrassed. My questions were obviously rubbish and boring and he couldn’t wait for it to finish so he could continue with his own quiz.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I would feel the same but it isn’t anything you’ve done wrong at all. You did a really good thing and it’s not your fault people are inpatient and rude. Your accent is lovely I’m sure but people can be so rude online. Please get some sleep and it’ll feel different tomorrow.

Write it all down on a piece of paper. Read it through. Screw the paper up and throw it in the bin and never think about it again.

I’d be fucked off he’s making money (because that’s content creators’ only motivations) off of me and was rude, using me to work for him for free & then being rude about it

Listen - you just learnt that live, online quizzing aint your strength 🤷‍♀️ unless you desperately wanted a career in this, it's no big deal.
