amber763 · 28/11/2025 19:10

That someone had died. Thats my only experience of two police men walking up my front path.

Coffeeishot · 28/11/2025 19:10

Well i would instantly think someone died!

FlutteryButterfly · 28/11/2025 19:10

Likely to be bad news- death or accident etc. Yes its happened to me 😢

NerrSnerr · 28/11/2025 19:10

Someone’s dead.

Same as- phone call from an unknown number- someone’s dead.

Message from a family member saying ‘call me’- someone’s dead.

I have some past trauma….

Pancakeflipper · 28/11/2025 19:10

There's been an accident

Seawolves · 28/11/2025 19:10

One of the kids had been in a serious accident

ForLoveNotMoney · 28/11/2025 19:11

Would definitely think some one had died or a serious accident

DrProfessorYaffle · 28/11/2025 19:11

Absolutely that my mum has been found dead/come off the road

EmeraldRoulette · 28/11/2025 19:11

From personal experience, either someone's died

Or someone's been burgled on either side of you - you'd probably already know that

Or one of your neighbours is suspected of being a terrorist. This is particularly awful when you've lost a loved one in a terrorist attack.

I hope you are okay @DisappointedD

CarlaLemarchant · 28/11/2025 19:12

If all DH and the kids were all at home with me, I’d think they were coming for something routine. If DH and/or the kids were out, my heart would stop.

Hairylegs202S · 28/11/2025 19:12

Death or serious accident in immediate family.

I've a clean conscience, so wouldn't worry that they were going to arrest me.

MagnoliaTreeBlossom · 28/11/2025 19:12

I would that someone has died or had a very serious accident and is likely to die.

Howtogetthrough · 28/11/2025 19:12

I'm the same as @amber763
It would remind me of the police officers coming to tell me my DH had died on his way to work.

TheNightingalesStarling · 28/11/2025 19:13

Something wrong with DH or DC...

Although I did have a police officer call round in the summer, all they wanted was CCTV footage.

P0PP · 28/11/2025 19:13

Well the last time this happened to me it was because I forgot to pay for my petrol 🤣

ahoyshipmate · 28/11/2025 19:14

Id just think something routine before jumping to death

OverNotOver · 28/11/2025 19:14

My only experience of this was that they were knocking on all the neighbours doors to ask if we knew anything about a particular family. We did, horrible domestic violence incident, so guessed that was why they were calling.

But yes, without that additional context I expect my first thought would be bad news.

TheDandyLion · 28/11/2025 19:15

Door to door questioning.

RaininSummer · 28/11/2025 19:16

Something horrible would be my first thought.

Fionasapples · 28/11/2025 19:16

I'd think something terrible had happened.
It did happen to me once, two policeman were at my door when I answered a knock, but they had come to the wrong house by mistake. They asked me if I'd been threatening to strangle a child!

HansHolbein · 28/11/2025 19:18

I’ve done nothing wrong so would assume death.

Coffeeishot · 28/11/2025 19:18

Once I had calmed myself I would probably think this.

MrsLeonFarrell · 28/11/2025 19:19

Had this three times whilst renting, they were always looking for a previous tenant. In my current house they visited because a neighbour had been burgled. I'd assume it was one of those.

nocoolnamesleft · 28/11/2025 19:21

Last time this happened, some idiot had claimed to be at my address calling 999 for help. Never heard of the person. But in general, I'd assume something very bad had happened to someone close to me.

I could forget to say for petrol like a PP.

I read that and then wondered if I have actually done that!
