Anyone else working Christmas?

Have to say I’m happy with my shifts this year 😊 12 hours Christmas Eve then 14 hours and a sleep in on Boxing Day so not working at all on Christmas Day. I have New Year’s Eve and day off although I’m going in for a sleep in on the 1/1.

Yeah I’m working some of it, global project deadline randomly set at 5 January to meet an internal political agenda driven by our US head office who got the holidays out of their system this week (Thanksgiving) and the IT team (in India, got the holidays out of their system during Diwali).

Last year I only got Christmas Day off as similar madness even had me working weekends; this year I’m angling for News Year Day and possibly half of Boxing Day. I will probably take a half day on Christmas Eve but in reality it’ll be eaten up by late night overtime!

It is totally unnecessary- the project could just as easily go live in February and we’d be better prepared. Instead we are rushing once again and scrooging Christmas. Just silly.

Ive taken my statutory minimum holiday this year and the rest will be written off.

Don’t feel sorry too for me though - I’m well paid and overall my life is just fine and I’ll have a happy albeit quite short Christmas!

14 hours on Xmas day?

No I’m doing 14 hours on Boxing Day plus sleeping in and 12 hours on Christmas Eve. I have Christmas Day off. There are people who are working either 6 or 12 hours on Christmas Day plus sleeping in as it’s a 24/7 365 job.

Night shift Xmas eve so I'll be getting home about 8am Christmas morning, but I'm quite looking forward to it! Then off for four days after that so happy with that!

We haven't had our Christmas rota yet, but we will be clamouring to sign up for extra shifts, as it is a manager-free fortnight, so we can get on with things without said manager making life hard work for us all!

I like working around the Christmas period. It's quiet and (generally) fairly peaceful. Then you make the mistake of running out of something, braving going into town, and being overwhelmed by how people-y it is out there šŸ˜€
