Does anyone buy from Temu?

My ds wants a clock for Christmas and the day boy place which I can find exactly what he’s looking for is Temu.

I’ve never ordered from there before and I don’t really want to tbh, but is there any chance it will be ok and actually work?

I’ve had stuff and it’s been fine. Mainly art materials though so nothing which “works” if that makes sense.

HappiestSleeping · 28/11/2025 07:13

I know a couple of people that have bought items from Temu and they've all been utter tat.

In two instances, it looked like what was advertised, but didn't function at all, the rest was all of very poor quality. I wonder if that is the same experience for everyone as they surely couldn't spend so much on advertising if it was all rubbish?

Avie29 · 28/11/2025 07:15

Temu can be hit and miss, but most of stuff ive ordered has been fine, its really easy to send it back if its not working or not what you want and most of the time they refund you and tell you to keep it anyway (on the lower priced items), i had a teddy for my daughter (£8)that arrived and an eye had popped off so i went to return it they told me to keep it and refunded and i managed to fix it anyway (i crochet alot so had some safety eyes) xx

Agree its hit and miss.

N9t as cheap as it used to be and almost.always smaller than expected.

abracadabra1980 · 28/11/2025 08:20

It can be hit and miss but some things are just fantastic. Their washable coir look rugs have ben a lifesaver for me lately. I also buy for my business as I need lots of things for that - most electricals are rechargeable and use USB-C ports. I was very wary of charging anything at first - and did so on my kitchen bench when I was in the house, but to be honest I've had no problems with anything. Most of the jumpers are cheap thin wool and bobble, and the sweatshirts I ordered were not cotton - finding cotton is hard. So clothing can be dodgy but I've had a fantastic pair of jeans from there. Returning is easy - seems a bit overwhelming on the actual site to read though, but often they've just let me keep things for free rather than return (last thing was a massive dog bed).

That's because their products don't have to conform to any safety standards. Appalling company and safety is just the tip of the iceberg.

Not wool. Plastic/polyester.

It's good that you were able to fix it and got a refund, but that's kind of not the point, is it? Imagine how many of those have been sent to the UK, and how many have been given to small children, and how catastrophic it would be if an eye just "popped out" and a child choked on it... They should have been made with safety eyes in the first place.

One of the big issues is the total lack of safety standards of the stuff coming in from cheap marketplaces like Temu.

suburburban · 28/11/2025 08:50

A relative had some nice standalone shelf things that went on worktop but I must admit I’m not keen to buy from them.

phantomofthepopera · 28/11/2025 08:54

I saw a Viz Top Top that said “Save yourself time and effort when ordering from Temu. Have it delivered directly to your local tip instead of using your home address”.

Theres a reason why you only get to see a tiny fuzzy thumbnail image rather than a proper picture.

ChristmasTimeChristmasJoy · 28/11/2025 08:57

Its hit & miss. Ive brought some lovely bits & pieces from temu. Cat house (superb quality, cats love it and its lasted two years!), a few cheap bits of clothing that although the quality isnt amazing they are fine to lounge about in, etc only thing i dont buy from there is electricals.

snoopythebeagle · 28/11/2025 09:10

DH has and it’s all been rubbish - either not as described, poor quality or downright dangerous.

AnchorWHAT · 28/11/2025 09:14

Nearly everything i have bought has been great, look closely at the item (zoom in) and customer reviews( often with photos), check dimensions and or size measurements, and filter by price first as the same things are advertised at different prices. With the exception of one dress that was cheap and flimsy which went back all the clothes have been really lovely and often much nicer than stuff available in uk shops, admittedly fabric wont be quality stuff but that doesn't bother me as long as it looks and hangs right. My best ever fitting jeans came from there. Most of the stuff i have asked to return they have refunded with no need to return and the stuff they have said send back has been a simple process via Evri parcel shop. I use the website as i think the app is awful and the customer chat facility is really good. They recently refunded a whole order because i complained that it had been dumped on my doorstep ie not safe rather than being delivered. They also give an instant £4 credit if it does not arrive by the date given, it nearly always does and is about a two week time lag so don't expect next day or anything.
just to add i don't / won’t buy electricals or charging stuff as i don't trust it to be safe. Although battery stuff like motion activated lights and solar lights have been really great.

MoonWoman69 · 28/11/2025 09:29

I have used Temu for nearly a year now. I get regular deliveries of all sorts of useful stuff and I can honestly say, only 2 items have been rubbish and have gone in the bin (too cheap to faff about returning!)
I don't think I'd buy for children from there, but as I'm an adult, I think I can keep myself safe. My husband bought a clock for the man cave and it's well made, he loves it!
Kitchen gadgets, cleaning mop cloths, a certain nail polish (that's £8+ on eBay!) rechargeable torches, battery night lights, cardigans, slippers, handbags, candles, a mince chopper - I've had lots of good stuff. But you'll start getting flamed on here because of your "ethics" if you mention you buy from them! We can't all afford to shop at the expensive places sadly.

SheinIsShite · 28/11/2025 09:32

Most of us are choosing not to buy nonsense like mince choppers.

It was fitted with safety eyes but one had pulled through the material, i suspect the hole for the eye had been made too big, thankfully it was for my older daughter (10) but i generally check all toys etc from any store before giving them to small children xx

JudgeBread · 28/11/2025 09:37

I don't, but not because I'm worried about the lack of quality, rather the lack of quality of life of the Chinese kids earning £1 a day making the shite. I am by no means a morally perfect person but I do try to avoid companies that rely on human exploitation to keep their prices low.

Christmascarrotjumper · 28/11/2025 09:38

Might be fine, might not be. I wouldn't buy a plug in electrical from there though. Assuming it's battery operated, and you're prepared for it to be in the bin in 6 months time, then you might be alright.
What sort of clock does he want?

Happydays321 · 28/11/2025 09:40

I bought a girls dressing up dress from there. Really well made with adjustable straps and lots of butterflies sewn, is used a lot by 2 girls and will be passed on.

TwoMintsLoose · 28/11/2025 09:41

Everything I’ve ordered has been fine and I’ve bought a variety of different things

Absolutely this.

Pollyanna87 · 28/11/2025 09:47

If you want your house to set on fire, go ahead.

SeaAndStars · 28/11/2025 10:04

They, like Shein are an exploitative company who care nothing for the people (often children) who make things for them. They make billions out of peddling tat that is so poorly made it goes straight to landfill - often before it is even sold because it's made in ridiculous quantities (more than would ever be needed) in order to keep costs down.

Poor materials. Poor ethics. Poor treatment of humans and the environment.
Then they do everything they can to avoid paying tax.

Absolutely shysters.

Avie29 · 28/11/2025 12:26

There are uk stores on there aswell, its not all crap from china, you can actually set it that you only see things sold locally xx

GanninHyem · 28/11/2025 12:28

If you're ok with them selling your baking data, not to mention to exploitative practices, environment issues, safety issues with products etc. then yeah I'm sure it's fine.
