Does anyone buy from Temu?

Cherrybombyouretheone · 28/11/2025 07:08

My ds wants a clock for Christmas and the day boy place which I can find exactly what he’s looking for is Temu.

I’ve never ordered from there before and I don’t really want to tbh, but is there any chance it will be ok and actually work?

Most of us are choosing not to buy nonsense like mince choppers.

Absolutely good for you. Let me know what works when you have arthritis and don't want massive lumps in your chilli or spaghetti bolognese. 🙄

I've bought teen 2 pairs of jeans he really likes and has asked for another pair the same as good fit for him. I've also bought wooden toys which have been good too. Many of the things they sell are identical to those for sale on Amazon but just a lot cheaper. I got a dress and jacket for everyday summer wear and was suprised how many people have complimented me on it. Some things don't look so good. Just be careful what you order. Returns are very easy. They don't quibble.

I always buy the disposable greece proof liners for my air fryer on there too. I got some for child to take to uni too.

If you want your house to set on fire, go ahead.

This. One of my team orders a lot from Temu and was going to leave something charging overnight in the office on a Temu charger the other day. Absolutely not 😱

rainbowunicorn22 · 28/11/2025 17:39

the jewellery is really cheap, ok it's not gold or silver but great for everyday wear and ideal if, like me, you are constantly breaking/ losing them
I find the craft stuff unbeatable. I do make a lot of cards, and the paper, etc., is amazing.
Also, i buy all my cleaning cloths and scrubbing things from them i do not see the point in paying more than i have to.
clothes yes I have but most tend to be nylon or similar ok but not that brilliant or hard wearing but saying that the kids clothes were so cheap and good quality. the ones with slogans on they do say mom etc so you have to be careful if you do not use that name

VikaOlson · 28/11/2025 17:43

I keep reading stories about the toxic chemicals used to make these things, lead paint etc. Really don't understand why people keep buying from these totally unregulated online sellers, especially for their children.
Is your own health and your family's health just not a consideration if it is cheap enough 😂

Are they food safe??

No, you have no idea what is in it. Lead maybe?

VikaOlson · 28/11/2025 17:46

Lead jewellery and asbestos airfryer liners 😂

cinquanta · 28/11/2025 17:47

DH buys stuff from them quite regularly and hasn’t been disappointed yet. Same with Aliexpress.

booboohoohoo · 28/11/2025 17:48

Has anyone heard of anyone dying from Temu jewellery or air fryer liners? 🤦‍♀️

How long does it take to die from?

I bought from wish when the kids were younger. I genuinely naively thought they were excess goods being sold cheap! Quite good for stationery. Then I realised that the safety standards weren't the same, and the conditions were awful so I stopped.

Vivianebrooksmatsumoto · 28/11/2025 20:20

From what I've heard about Temu I wouldn't, chances are you're not getting what it looks like or you'll get just a picture of a clock.
It won't be anywhere near as nice as he thinks it'll be.
It makes me think of those influencers on tiktok promoting stuff, of course the item they're promoting looks good but of course it would be, the one anyone else orders isnt gonna be as good.

Sadworld23 · 28/11/2025 21:08

Hit and miss yes. Cheap tat, alot. Bit like Amazon Haul..

But my little boy loves his temu bricks so not total waste.

Be mindful.some stuff takes an age to arrive..but they do refund you if it takes longer than they expect.

Home bargains @1.99 for 50. Really good too..

Brendathebear · 28/11/2025 21:14

I have bought a few things from them. Most have actually been ok.

Im careful what I do purchase and they seem ok quality and have lasted.

I also buy from shein (clothes)and have actually had some great purchases that are still going strong over a year later with lots of wear. Other than them, I tend to only buy from charity shops. <Hoping that balances my terrible shopping habit out >

Sofasu · 28/11/2025 21:16

I have used it mainly for sewing materials - buttons, hardware for bag making. It's all been fine. I did get tempted into buying some clothes and it was absolute tat and tiny so I wouldn't do it again.
I only pay with PayPal and use a browser not app.
I was buying the stuff online from Amazon but it was obviously made in China so I cut out a layer. The stuff from temu comes in the same packaging as Amazon so I imagine made in the same factory.
I do understand the hesitation over worker exploitation but I don't know how you avoid it unless you entirely boycott Chinese products. Most of the stuff I buy simply isn't made in the UK.

SoPunkontheInternet · 28/11/2025 21:18

Alllll of the time but hurry up. Delivery is slowing down atm and you’ll need it in time to know it’s in good condition

TheGrimSmile · 28/11/2025 21:22

No and I wouldn't.

This 👆with the exception of clothes. I wouldn’t buy clothing, shoes or fabric from them because I only buy natural fibres and wouldn’t chance it. My sewing/haberdashery stuff has been excellent and a fraction of the price I would pay elsewhere. A bobbin box was 6 times cheaper than the one I previously bought from Amazon. When it arrived, I was surprised to find it was much better quality! The only item that had an issue was a thread box which arrived broken I went onto the website uploaded a photo in their returns section and was immediately refunded, with no need to return it.

I also only use the website (so avoid all the ads and daft promotions). I use PayPal to avoid any risk of harvesting financial data and I wouldn’t buy electrical items due to the lack of protection of European safety regulations.

We and most Western European countries are no longer manufacturing nations. Most of what we buy from any shop is made in China, TVs, Cookers, furniture, small electricals, mobile phones, computers etc. I have only had my first order (last week) from Temu. I have avoided them previously, but I came to realise that the stuff from Amazon is the same, Etsy is full of items that sellers have bought in bulk from Temu. I’m not prepared to pay 6 times as much for the routine things any longer.

mondaytosunday · 28/11/2025 21:55

Yes but usually things like yarn - nothing expensive. Never had an issue though - everything was as pictured.

Starship74 · 28/11/2025 22:01

I've bought many items from Temu. You really have to look at the reviews and sort by lowest to get an indication of what the product is really like.

Bought some gorgeous kitchen handles last week which are far nicer than any of the UK ones at a similar price point.

SeaAndStars · 28/11/2025 10:04

They, like Shein are an exploitative company who care nothing for the people (often children) who make things for them. They make billions out of peddling tat that is so poorly made it goes straight to landfill - often before it is even sold because it's made in ridiculous quantities (more than would ever be needed) in order to keep costs down.

Poor materials. Poor ethics. Poor treatment of humans and the environment.
Then they do everything they can to avoid paying tax.

Absolutely shysters.

This! I could not give them my money with a clean conscience.

PigeonsandSquirrels · 28/11/2025 22:17

No, Items from Temu are not regulated like items in UK shops meaning they can be made of dangerous materials like lead paint or other toxic substances. Some safety concerns have been raised regarding Temu's products, with the European Commission investigating Temu over a failure to prevent the sale of illegal or unsafe products that don't meet EU safety standards.
