About Cetaphil face wash- it’s been a game changer for me. I also didn’t know enough symptoms of menopause- I honestly thought I was going mad with some of my symptoms! Love mn!!

What about the face wash, tell me more please?

MrsGusset · 28/11/2025 09:43

That so many highly paid professional people spend their working days on Mumsnet:-

Obstetrician here...
Nuclear Physicist here...

That I had been using hair grips the wrong way round my entire life. Banging a jar lid against a hard surface will loosen a lid... both, in their small ways, total gamechangers for me.

Also everyone hates their MIL and there nuance isn't widely recognised on MN ;)

Never works for me. I'm probably cack-handed though!

How is this meant to be done?

it’s just soothing and hydrating and added plus not too expensive! I use the one that’s hydrating, dark blue pump

That there are people on MN who seem to believe Trump is the GOAT of businessmen, and his only goal is to save America as opposed to the obvious truth that he just wants to line his family's pockets and live out his dictatorship wet dream.

Not answering the door, why are people so weird about opening the door? Unless you live in a massively crime ridden neighbourhood i cant imagine why you wouldnt answer the door.

Being offended if family/friends dont wait for an invite before darkening the doorstep with their presence.

That babies are meant to be hidden away for the first few weeks of their existence.

That everyone cooks mid-week meals like they're a Michelin star chef and not just bunging on some pasta and grated cheese.

Not mumsnet but I remember getting into an argument with a “super busy doctor” on facebook and she spent two weeks straight harassing me, messaging people I know lies about me, making “memes” with my face in, threatening to get me sacked from my job. I’d wake up to hundreds of messages from her and to see she’d posted a load of crappy edits with my face in on her page. She then did the same thing to two of my friends. She was also twice my age

Another one is having your kids in your 30s is middle class and the 20s is working class.
Because I was 16 with my first in apparently underclass 😂

I must be extremely underclass because I had 3 children by the age of 18.

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 28/11/2025 10:02

I often read on here that the terms 'throwing a paddy' and 'paddy wagon' are offensive to the Irish. It doesn't seem to be offensive to the successful Irish tour company Paddywagon Tours.

www.paddywagontours.com/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=1682772680&gbraid=0AAAAADl_IHLVotI7KENlKYya4fu6sMOh_&gclid=CjwKCAiAraXJBhBJEiwAjz7MZaTgzG3-peN_25vHi5TYCoSeO2OK7hQH94HaWCeD5BF-TTAo0Eo1oRoCT2kQAvD_BwE

I get that the phrase started as a judgment on drunken Irish people but language evolves and the racist undertone has disappeared.

Similarly, you often read on here that the phrase "Irish twins' is offensive. As an Irish twin myself I've always been very proud of it!

I notice this one a lot too.I have concluded that my life has been far from sheltered but a lot of people on here seem to never really read, look, research or wonder about any sorts of lives outside of their own little bubble. I am naturally curious about the darker side of human interaction and socialisation and have been open to all types of people, and various jobs I have had have also taken me that way. Others aren't like this.

I've said it before but a lot of 'Well that's never happened to MeeeEE?! How could it possibly be something others might have seen or experienced?'
Very insular attitude.

Yeah, I see this a lot and find it really odd. It’s especially strange in combination with so many posters apparently being on 100k plus or other high salaries (and therefore more likely to have had significant opportunities to mix widely and experience a range of cultures and attitudes, one would think).

The certainty that some posters respond to threads with where the situation seems really quite nuanced is also symptomatic of this general attitude - like, ‘he’s definitely cheating’ (how can they possibly know?).

That your partner can do one little thing to annoy you and you must suddenly LTB!

Twirlyhockey · 28/11/2025 10:07

Racist undertone might have disappeared for you, but you don't get to speak for everyone. If any Irish people find it racist that's a good enough reason to just not say it.

An Irish tour company is allowed to reclaim a term, the same way as I as a white southern English middle aged woman would never say "Hey, my n-word" to a friend but black people in Atlanta are completely within their rights to choose to do so.

Oh wow you must have started even younger than me unless twins, sometimes I wish I’d had all my kids closer in age instead of leaving a massive gap. Would certainly make days out easier

Not exactly a nuggets of info, but I’ve been amazed at how so many MNers are obsessed with germs and ‘hygiene’. It’s got to the stage where almost every time anyone mentions the H word, I think ‘OTT clean freak’.

That some people view dogs as equal to humans (I've been on threads where people would rescue a dog before a baby from a burning building and thought that was ok). And that any thread that talks about some form of dog control (on or off lead, jumping up, poo, biting) will kick off.

And yes. Loo brushes. Frequency of sheet/towel washing. Baby names. And loo brushes. Wtf.

Ok devils advocate, but why wouldn’t it be morally ok to rescue a family pet of 15 or 20 years (ie an intelligent living creature that you have a deep emotional connection with and responsibility toward) rather than a random stranger. Or a family pet rather than some rapist/murderer.

Bathing once a week.😩

Well, I didn’t mean that sort of lack of hygiene! More with obsessive daily cleaning of every surface, washing towels after every single use, etc. I still recall one MNer saying she couldn’t possibly use a towel after her dh had - it’d have his dead skin cells on it!

Presumably this was someone she had sex with! I do sometimes wonder whether clean-freak MNers go over their dhs with Dettol and a Brillo pad before allowing them anywhere near.
