Climbing Centre Job - interview tips please

Hi there,

My teen has secured an interview for a weekend job as a weekend climbing instructor at the local centre.

So far instructions are to turn up in comfortable clothing as it will be a practical interview.

Any hints and tips appreciated please. Clothing, hair, piercings etc.

TIA

Are they a qualified climbing instructor? If so then presumably they know what they should wear and what piercings etc are ok safety-wise.

If not then tbh they should run a mile from the job, it isn't really something an unqualified teen should be doing as a first job.

I spend a lot of time in climbing centres. Most are pretty relaxed place. Does he have his CWI (climbing wall instructor)? If he does already they’ll snap him up I assume. If not, and they’ll train on the job he just needs to be friendly, keen, willing to work with adults and kids. It’ll almost certainly be a nice place to work where he can get a good amount of subsidised qualifications.

The rules are really, really strict. They won’t let him be an instructor with no training. He’d either start as a floor walker (general supervision of walls to make sure rules are followed) while he does he qualifications or start on clip and climb/ fun walls which requires less training (but still will have to be trained).
