Shingles vaccine after effects

wavingfuriously · 26/11/2025 13:22

Just to say upfront that this vaccine is a great invention for older people and glad I had it yesterday but am feeling wiped out today.. Has anyone else had this reaction please? it seemed to knock me out last night and slept for 9 hours straight which is a record. I don't feel ill but ...exhausted..and if course guilty as there's loads of things should be getting on with!🙄

I felt crap for a few days particularly after the second injection. Flu ones don’t bother me at all.

HollyhockDays · 26/11/2025 17:25

DH got shingles. I know it’s not a live vaccine but it was a massive coincidence!!

Lifelover16 · 26/11/2025 17:29

Yes I felt wiped out the day after, and a bit feverish. My arm was very sore too.

No symptoms at all following the flu vacc.

Yes, my husband did, he felt bad for a few days. I had shingles last year and believe me whatever the side effects they can't be as bad as shingles!!!!

TonTonMacoute · 26/11/2025 17:51

It was a horrid injection, but the only side effect was a very sore arm. Only had the first one so far.

Apprenante · 26/11/2025 18:17

It's the only injection I've ever had a reaction to, as far as I can remember. The nurse said - when she did the second jab - that most people react.

wavingfuriously · 26/11/2025 18:25

Thank you everyone for the feedback 😊 feel so lazy lounging around today

Reacted with the first one - felt a bit ropey, went to bed early - second one, nothing except for sore arm.

Worth every moment to avoid Shingles, though.

I felt terrible after both Shingrix vaccines. I had it privately after repeated shingles. It’s supposed to be much better than Zostavax.
It was a few years ago and I had my third Covid vaccine a month after (this was the recommended gap).
Within 5 minutes of third Covid injection I had a temperature. A week later I got shingles again. it was probably my worst bout of it. 2 weeks of antivirals and the nerve pain was horrendous.
Do whatever you can to avoid shingles but no vaccine is going to protect you 100%, unfortunately

AntiqueBooks · 26/11/2025 19:08

I'm 42 and will be getting this vaccine (privately) on my 50th bday!

I had shingles 4.5 years ago, not something I want to repeat.

SouthernNights59 · 26/11/2025 19:38

I was a bit unwell for a couple of days after my first one (aching joints, fever), and had a really sore arm. The second one was fine. I've never had a reaction to any other vaccine.

Apparently it is still 70+% effective after 3 years, so it is worth having👍

I had my shingles vaccine yesterday and I’m feeling rough today — pounding headache, aching bones, no energy at all, and I can’t seem to warm up. Hoping it eases soon.

I had the reverse of this. Ok with first, not so great with second. Glad I got it though.

So dos my best friend!

caramac04 · 24/01/2026 16:40

Had first vaccine 10 days ago. Sore arm, ached down to elbow and painful to move my arm. Tingling in upper neck and jawline.
Very uncomfortable in bed as I couldn’t lay on that arm.
Following day I was fine. Relieved because I thought it was going to be an issue.

Hoping you'll be ok tomorrow 👍 it's a 24 hrs thing usually

I am a HCP who administers this vaccine. It’s well known to cause some after effects which you should have been aware of prior to administration. Injection site tenderness/swelling is very common.
Obviously if you are concerned then call 111 but otherwise hopefully this mean your immune system has recognise the pathogen and is using its energy to build a good future defence!

IwasOmazed · 03/04/2026 07:58

Had my 2nd dose this week. Felt just as bad as the first dose 🤒😩. Thankfully, the effects have now passed. 😀

TonTonMacoute · 04/04/2026 16:05

My second dose my arm was slightly less sore than the first time, but I did feel slightly unwell for that evening.
