Climbing over gates and everything. In my pyjamas and dressing gown with a torch in London. At 10.30 at night.

tell me why I did this (I’m not Batman or a burglar)

Some arsehole nicks our recycling bin on a regular basis, others chuck their crap in which ends up with being refused collection. Husband cleans and preps all our recycling and inserts into scrubbed Bin with military precision. He also it out early on day of collection and retrieves it if he's home so there's rarely a window of opportunity but some fcker swipes in! Apologies. Don't know how to remove bold!

Roomforapony · 26/11/2025 06:24

@LaurieFairyCake You’ve created your own version of Theft and Shrubbery! Bob Mortimer would be so proud🤣

Eastie77Returns · 26/11/2025 06:28

Nah I feel your pain OP.

I live in a semi-detached and our attached neighbour took our recycling bin once. The crazy thing is it has our door number on it, I bought one of those luminous bin numbers you get in Poundland no less, and I saw the fucking bin in her back garden. I knocked on her door to get it back. She apologised and said they borrowed it while we were on holiday because they had 20 kids around for her DD’s birthday party and they needed the bin for extra paper and boxes from the presents. I was kind of stunned and just took the bin back in silence.

Is a fuck budgie the same as a fuck buddy

A fuck budgie is what a fuck buddy keeps in his speedos.
No idea how it has the strength to steal a wheeliebin though.

TheMorgenmuffel · 26/11/2025 06:36

With the next bin, get a gravity lock. Then its of no use to anyone else

Sprinklesandsprinkles · 26/11/2025 06:57

There was a kick off in our close about a bin being stolen, then stolen "back" but it wasn't theirs! Checking our camera we saw the bin lorry eat her bin!! And the bin men didn't say a word just drove off 😂

GaudySocks · 25/11/2025 23:25

Let’s hope none of your neighbours get burgled tonight because your pyjama fluff and dna are everywhere

🤣

Ooh I do miss CSI.

Nothungrycat · 26/11/2025 07:17

I've got the opposite here. A spare recycling box, with no identifying marks, ended up outside mine after last week's round. I've mentioned this on the terrace whatsapp, and no-one has claimed it. It's been a week now, and I'm hoping that the bin men will redistribute it somewhere else as it's making the place look untidy.

aphroditeflighty · 26/11/2025 07:25

Initially I thought you were playing Bob Mortimer's Theft & Shrubbery game.

randoname · 26/11/2025 07:27

Changename12 · 25/11/2025 23:25

If I came across someone in my garden at night, I would turn the hose on them.

Sorry about your bin Laurie.
Two thoughts. Budgie is like muppet, right?
Also what a lovely British problem. I don’t think there are many countries where you could do that safely.

Empress13 · 26/11/2025 07:31

So strange a bloody lunatic was trying to get over my garden wall last night unfortunately my XL bully couldn’t get to them 🤣

LizzieSiddal · 26/11/2025 07:35

The lesson we learn here is NEVER mess with a menopausal woman and her bin!!

We’re all here for you @LaurieFairyCake

WhitePudding · 26/11/2025 07:35

My bin fell off the clamp things that hold it in place on the lorry and was ultimately crushed. The bin men must have reported it themselves though as a new bin was there when I got home (neighbour saw my bin fall in).

stichguru · 26/11/2025 07:49

LaurieFairyCake · 25/11/2025 22:55

Yes!!! Some fuck budgie took my FUCKING BIN 🗑️

Do you have evidence it wasn't eaten by the bin lorry?! Ours was some years ago and we only knew when we had looked for it and, giving up the search, went online to buy a new one from the council. It had already been ordered so presumably they knew it had fallen in to the lorry and did an order when they got back to the depot.

Blueuggboots · 26/11/2025 07:50

Did you find it??

KilliMonjaro · 26/11/2025 07:52

LaurieFairyCake · 25/11/2025 22:55

Yes!!! Some fuck budgie took my FUCKING BIN 🗑️

Why are your bins in the back garden?

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/11/2025 07:54

Trying to get to The Winchester?

PGmicstand · 26/11/2025 08:14

I salute your dedication to the job. I wonder if some bastard has pulled the sticky numbers off to pass it off as their own bin?
I wonder if you can maybe chain the new one up somehow?

Liondoesntsleepatnight · 26/11/2025 08:17

when reunited with the bin adorn it with giant stickers, not just your house number, my lovely friends got huge rainbows, looking at Temu you can buy rolls of diamanté sticky stuff.

SquirrelosaurusSoShiny · 26/11/2025 08:20

I saw your name @LaurieFairyCake and knew it would be a good thread 😁 An old style MN thread where no one has to write 'Lighthearted' in the title.

Of course none of it is lighthearted, in peri cold-blooded murder is a possibility when some fuck budgie steals the bin!

ChocolateBiscuitsandaCuppa · 26/11/2025 08:31

I think you might be my hero.

LogicVoid · 26/11/2025 08:50

When my bin disappears, it's usually quickly located. But once it had totally gone. I rang the council to report it, it turns out that there was a note on the system to say that the bin lorry had 'eaten' it!! Apparently this does happen occasionally. Wish they had left me a note to tell me though, I was looking for ages.

JayJayj · 26/11/2025 08:56

My bins have been so many times. Right now my 2 bins are actually 2 different houses l!! They were left at the side of my house for a week so I claimed them as mine!! It’s been months now and they are out every week with the same number on so could easily be taken back. I’m just fed up of it. I’d have to pay for a new bin it’s been stolen that many times.

Jzp · 26/11/2025 09:09

CookiesAreForSharing · 25/11/2025 23:27
