Talking while walking uphill...getting tight chest. Should I be worried?

I live in a hilly urban place and twice in the past two weeks, I've been walking up one of the main uphill roads and talking on the phone and it's been HARD. Chest feels tight. Had to pause today and take a deep breath. Friend at other end of phone said I didn't sound out of breath.

I did a peak flow test and it was average. Nothing special.

Should I be concerned?

I do a lot of weights in the gym but less cardio these days. Could that be a contributing factor? Am I just out of cardio shape?

It worried me a bit.

It’s probably the cold air.

Coffeeclair · 25/11/2025 12:32

It wasn't that cold today here or the other night...

Get checked out. What harm could it do. Could be lack of cardio fitness could be something else. you don't say how old you are or your weight. Could be a factor.

It depends if previously you could do it without being breathless If you notice a
change get it checked out

How are you otherwise? Like shorter distances?

olderbutwiser · 25/11/2025 16:37

I would get that checked out - not in any great rush. But given your age (sorry, I'm older than you if it helps) if it's new to you and persists I'd try for a GP appointment.

Coffeeclair · 25/11/2025 16:39

I'm fine walking and exercising. It's just walking uphill and talking at the same time!

i walk with friends and anyone doing a lot of talking can get a bit breathless whilst those not talking don’t. But no harm in getting it checked

I had this after COVID for a bit, have you had a virus/cold recently? Otherwise I would think about iron levels and keep a very close eye on it.
