Farage’s racism

I haven’t yet seen a post about this story: Twenty people allege he has a racist past. He denies it. Who’s telling the truth about Farage’s schooldays? | Nigel Farage | The Guardian

Farage no longer categorically denies these incidents, and is now trying to fudge things by saying he didn’t mean any harm and it was a long time ago - presumably because he knows it is true and realises that 20 separate people saying it means only the truly deluded wouldn’t believe he was a racist.

But what I am interested in is does this actually assist his election chances? We already know that many of his supporters are racists - does it actually work for him that this blatant racism from him shores up their support? Are they secretly (or perhaps not so secretly in some cases) pleased?

And what do those of you who are Reform supporters but believe yourself not be racist think? Does it make you change your mind about him or Reform?

Twenty people allege he has a racist past. He denies it. Who’s telling the truth about Farage’s schooldays?

Reform UK’s leader refuses to answer questions about his abusive behaviour, claiming there’s ‘no evidence’. We talk to victims and witnesses

So don't call out Farage's racism, appease his supporters instead?

'you made me do it' Hmm

HRTQueen · 27/11/2025 11:39

No
but the personal attacks on him do not work, the same with Trump.
Report heavier on the policies rather than pulling him apart. That he is a racist is hardly news is it, he is a master manipulator we want people to see that his policies will not work not that he isn't a nice person because many people don't care about that and many see nothing is wrong

He will constantly press home he is an outsider with those in the media out to get him, and reporting like this backs his views and his supporters its also a handy diversion to not talk about policies

DuncinToffee · 27/11/2025 11:44

His core supporters don't care about his policies either, same as with Trump

But those who are thinking of voting Reform might put a bit more thought in it when confronted with Farage's racism as well as their disastrous policies

Its not new news it just wasn't reported so heavily before I guess as its really not a surprise to many people

Being a bully many will feel isn't a bad trait for a future PM to have and many will turn a blind eye to his racism and Farage will absolutely spin this story

I am afraid The Guardian has only caused his supporters to deepen their support for him and those who dislike him to feel more anger.

This is where I feel we so often get it wrong with dealing with Farage, through all this at him and insult him you insult his supporters, you play his game. Its not to say that it shouldn't be reported but keep the focus on his politics and dig up his Russian connections rather than attack him personally, it doesn't work, never has and has the opposite impact I would have hoped by now certain areas of the media would have learnt this as its been clear for years now and this is exactly what has happened to Trump. Stick to pulling apart is policies, the outrage is only to The Guardian's readers and those who despise him anyway

I agree to some extent. Reform’s ties to Russia should be the bigger story.

It is only a few days since Nathan Gill, former leader of Reform in Wales, was sentenced to over 10 years in prison for accepting bribes from an asset of the Russian security services who has been sanctioned by the British and American governments. Reform has resisted all calls to investigate this. Sir Ed Davey used his plea for the investigation to remind everyone that Farage is on record saying that the politician he most admires is Vladimir Putin.

As revolting as the racism is, the Russia connections should be the bigger story

DuncinToffee · 27/11/2025 12:04

Counter terrorisme are investigating more MEP's over Russian bribes

Farage has ruled out any investigation.

Thank you - thought that there were ongoing investigations

And ofcourse Farage has appeared on Russian tv

As I suspected, a BBC film writer/Director is behind the Ferage rumours.

I now don't believe a word of any of it.

Michael Crick?

You are a bit slow on the uptake, his book was out in 2022.

beguilingeyes · 27/11/2025 12:25

He hasn't denied it though, only seeked to minimise.
These reports have been around for years. The man's vile.

So 20 people are all lying and your hero is pure as the driven snow. We get it.

Peter Ettegdui is a screenwriter and film oroducer. He has won a number of major awards including a BAFTA for best documentary.

I am not finding a particular connection to the BBC.

DuncinToffee · 27/11/2025 12:09

Also for @Efacsen

I hope the mainstream media and politicians will stay focused on the Russian side also. I do think many potential Reform voters are patriotic.

Oooh, ableism now! For someone who doesn't like Farage, you're awfully keen to defend him - to the point of discounting information from 20 people, just because one of them may once have worked for the BBC. Yep, that's very rational.

So people can highlight my disability and I can't note that lots of people have disabilities?

It may surprise you to learn that as people who grew up in an individual, then family Christian culture some have a very different world view to others, for example those who grow up in non-christian clans or with the say a Hindu world view of (I can't remember the exact terms - apparently there is no direct translation) something like Shame face, we all see who you are, you are exposed.

I don't care about being in a team/clan or people trying to shame me, so you know in advance if this shameful face thing is denied by you, I expect if from non-Christians like BBC/Guardian staff, it doesn't bother me, if it makes you feel good along with sob stories, crack on.

Not addressing your very tenuous reasons for not believing the reporting on Farage's racism then?

Religion is completely irrelevant in this discussion.

Reading comprehension is important, as you demonstrated here that you struggle with it, I have no more to say past this post, you can not help your disabilities, the thing is nobody can have any meaningful conversation with someone who lacks basic understanding of what is going on.

As at school I was brought up on spelling you will have been with your poor comprehension.

Insulting the intelligence of someone who disagrees with you is a fair indication that you know you’ve lost the argument. I guess it’s only to be expected from a Farage aficionado though.

Efacsen · 27/11/2025 13:44

There's nothing wrong with @pointythings reading comprehension - she just disagrees with you

How bizarre

Well, I would ordinarily report your post as a personal attack, because it manifestly is. However, I think it should stand as a monument to the pathetic powerlessness of people who have no arguments beyond the ad hominem.
