Are period knickers worth buying? Do you use them?

Instead of using pads or tampons, I thought I would try period knickers. However, I'm a bit wary of buying unknown brands.

Any recommendations? Are they good for heavier flows? Easy to wash?

Thanks

Genuine question here from someone who has used period knix. I’ve often used fabric conditioner but wondered if it’s all a big con. There’s a lot of no fabric conditioner from posters on here. Does it ruin the absorbency or why is that? Many thanks.

Same as with towels. The FC coats the fibres and makes them less absorbent.

I have extremely heavy periods. The heaviest modibodi ones I have don’t stand a chance on days 1 and 2. I do use them the rest of the week though, as they’re more comfortable than anything else I’ve used 🙂

Of all the heavy flow ones I’ve tried these are great. The coverage is massive, I feel like I’ve got period protection half way up to my armpits! Other “heavy flow” pants just don’t have the coverage I need for flooding on heavy days (sorry if that’s TMI).

I’ve never used fabric softener in my life!

Are you rinsing them enough? I find mine smell unless I do a long wash or a pre-rinse cycle. The eco machine settings or quick washes don’t rinse them enough in my machine.

Can you ever smell your flow when using period pants like you sometimes can with a pad? I would be a bit paranoid about this.

I've never noticed it. My mum said recently that period pants sounded gross and that they'd smell. I asked her if she'd ever noticed mine smelling. She decided she'd never been with me when I was wearing them, I had a pair on that day!

I think it depends. My periods are very heavy and I find the M&S ones leak quite frequently - and I only use them as tampon back up. I've had other brands that have been better in the past, but they're not foolproof. I might be quite an extreme case though. When my periods were lighter I did find them brilliant.

I appreciate all your responses. 😉I love the advice about washing them, thanks.

@Mookie81 Thank you. I love the different styles and absorbency choices that meet our needs.

I have brought the M&S pack, and I am waiting for my Modibodi pants to arrive. I'll test them out at home because I am worried about wearing them when I'm out. I've had incidents when my periods were heavy or clotty and I could feel the blood leaking down my legs.

I don’t know if it’s because I have a heavy period but I can’t wear them the first couple of days or I end up changing my pants loads because they feel wet to put on after going to the toilet and I don’t like that feeling. I also don’t want to be carrying my round dirty pairs of pants. Once the first couple of days are out the way I love them because I can wear them all day. I use the m&s ones
