Are period knickers worth buying? Do you use them?

Instead of using pads or tampons, I thought I would try period knickers. However, I'm a bit wary of buying unknown brands.

Any recommendations? Are they good for heavier flows? Easy to wash?

Thanks

I think they are great. I used cheeky pants & M&S ones. For me they are more comfortable & seemed to smell less. It think because pads are there would always be an odour.
the only thing with knickers is changing them when wearing trousers can be a faff but overall I defo prefer them

Weatherwax · 24/11/2025 19:00

I love mine. I have some Primark, some M&S and some Modibodi. The Modibodi are definitely the most comfortable but are the most expensive. I have quite a light flow though, but I can wear a pair all day at work with no problems. They wash well, and I love how they've eliminated all the waste from traditional period products.

I love mine I use M&s!

I use Primark and M&S and they've been great for me

problembottom · 24/11/2025 19:58

Love them! Just wish they were around when I was a teenager. I have the M&S ones, they wash brilliantly.

Chinsupmeloves · 24/11/2025 20:04

Would've loved these when younger but I think i would still feel the need to wear a pad? Everyone i know says they're great, no matter the brand, but wear pads as well on heavy days.

Winterwalks90 · 24/11/2025 20:06

Period pants are quite tight to stop any leaks, I have the shape period pants also form M&s honestly I can’t recommend them enough

Meredusoleil · 24/11/2025 20:06

I have some Primark ones and use them with a pad to avoid leakage overnight or on heavy flow days. Wouldn't use them alone though. But I am old (50 yo).

verybighouseinthecountry · 24/11/2025 20:14

They aren't good for heavy flow IME and the stitching often isn't leakproof so blood wicks through onto your trousers. I only use them towards the end of my period or with a pad when I'm using my cup in case of leaks.

Sandsnake · 24/11/2025 20:18

I don’t use them properly, as I still use tampons too but they’re brilliant. Love not having to be so paranoid about changing tampons and stressing about leaks - especially as think in peri so periods heavier and less predictable!

reluctantbrit · 24/11/2025 20:21

I loved them. I started when I was peri and had really heavy periods and soiled more than one bedsheet.

They were a game changer, DD moved to them as soon as her period started 6 years ago.

I love that there are so many levels, from very light to heavy that I didn't have to change for a full day.
I used a pad when I had an office day, started at 6.30am at home, removed that around 10am and carried on the rest of the day just with the heavy flow pants.

We use Modibodi, also their swimwear/bikini bottoms. I have some M&S as well but they aren't the best for a heavy flow.

In the 5 years I used them I had one small leak.

Bramblejuice · 24/11/2025 20:27

I use M&S and Wuka (more expensive) depending on flow. I have extremely heavy periods due to peri and I can comfortable wear the heavy duty Wuka without any worries. I find M&S serves me towards the end of my period. I have found that it takes a bit of trial and error to find the one that works for you but it's definitely worth the switch.

blankcanvas3 · 24/11/2025 20:28

I do use them but only whilst also wearing tampons, they’re good for my heavy days. I wouldn’t wear them by themselves because I don’t like the feeling of the blood coming out of me (if that makes sense) and I also don’t think they would hold my heavy flow for that long meaning I would need to change my knickers whilst out. Would probs consider if I had a lighter period though

Iguesswelljustthrowthisawaythen · 24/11/2025 20:36

I'm a recent convert. I have heavy periods with flooding. The m&s ones are a game changer for me. I absolutely hated mobibodi - they felt like I was wearing a nappy and also leaked within a couple of hours. M&s have been fantastic and I literally can't fault them!

Mydadsbirthday · 24/11/2025 20:46

I have the M&S ones too and find them really good.

I do wear with a pad on day 1 and 2 though and get rid after a few hours at work.

I find you do have to rinse them thoroughly after use before putting in the machine. I wouldn't put them into the wash without washing out blood.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 24/11/2025 20:55

Yes. Game changer.Modi bodi.

DumpedByText · 24/11/2025 20:55

My DD (18) has never used anything else but period pants. She thinks Modi Body are the best, close second are Hey Girls, then Wuka. She's not tried M&S or Primark.

You can get multi packs, she uses the heavy flow and never leaks or has problems with them.

AmaniVibes · 24/11/2025 21:14

Thank you all.

I'm peri, so my periods are sometimes heavy and light.

I have Primark and M&S near me. Do I buy Modibodi online?

AwkwardPaws27 · 24/11/2025 21:17

I have Wuka for heavy days (first 2-3 days for me) and then use some cheap ones from Aldi & Primark for the remaining 3-4 days (which are much lighter for me).
No issues provided I use the right ones for the right days; I once accidentally put on the cheapies on day 2 & did have a small leak then (it's not as easy to tell when they are at capacity as a pad) but I wouldn't go back to disposables now.

DyslexicPoster · 24/11/2025 21:25

I have the Primark ones. I think they are great. I also don't wear them on their own. They are great really. I do think after a certain amount of washing they do start to leak which you have to factor in cost wise.

TheWeekOnTheDalymountSeat · 24/11/2025 21:28

Best money I’ve spent this year, 3 pairs from M&S

Yerdug · 24/11/2025 21:29

Please can someone explain these pants?
I dont get it - where do all the bits and blood go? Does these pants have built in pads? How do they not leak? How do you not smell? Are you supposed to wear them all day?

crinklechips · 24/11/2025 21:29

I’ve only got a couple of pairs which I use either alongside tampons on a heavy day or on their own either if I think I’m due or at the end of my period. I did leak badly right through my trousers the first time I tied thrm so haven’t had the confidence to rely on them, and if I wear them all day I think thry get a bit niffy.

annlee3817 · 24/11/2025 21:31

Love them, I mainly use them overnight or if I am working from home, use tampons otherwise. All mine are Modibodi, have picked up some in the next sale previously, and got a code for a free pair to try directly from Modibodi, they have some good sales. I've also got next ones for lighter days, so much more comfortable than sleeping with a pad in at night. I've only leaked once, usually better when I put them on right before bed.

JollyJolene · 24/11/2025 21:35

I don’t have periods anymore thanks to a coil but before that I would have very heavy periods and would not sleep well at night for fear of leaking. Modibodi were a game changer. They never leaked. Would absolutely recommend.
