Strange things that give you a kind of "ick" in everyday life

I don't mean getting the "ick" about a sexual or romantic partner. And I don't mean being put-off by things that are actually pretty grim. I mean random things that you inexplicably find a bit off-putting in everyday life.

For me, I get a kind of "ick" when I read other people talking about food on forums MN I honestly had no idea why. It's so odd, I really like reading food descriptions in books but in forums I find it really off-putting.

In the real-world, I also really hate opening other people's fridges. They always smell weird (different from my own). I have to hold my breath.

Dirty fingernails.
The boy in my class who farts and laughs at least five times a day.
Food bits in a sink
Hairy toes

Me too! Thought it was just me. I hate going into the bathroom after DP has cleaned his teeth. I’m fine cleaning my teeth but if I have to go back in too soon afterwards the smell makes me gag. It’s so odd.

People using new ‘online meme’ colloquialisms, or however you phrase it, in casual talk, I have no idea what you’re on about!!

People vaping/ smoking.

I agree with Christmas Eve boxes and elf on the shelf. I’d like to put Christmas bedding in Room 101 too.

Those new cars with front grills that look like a million spiders eyes. Someone down the road has one and it makes me feel ill to look at it. Think they are called Omoda.

Adults eating pots of yogurt. Particularly if it is part of a packed lunch and they have brought their own spoon with them. I think it makes them look like a massive child and it weirds me out.

'Snotty' eggs, where the white isn't fully cooked; people slurping any drinks, particularly hot ones.

Christmas air fresheners full stop are a sickly stench

I hate wet hair, including my own. I hate to wash my hair, although I do do it, but I just hate strands of hair coming out in the shower or touching me. I think it is due to dirty swimming pool floors as a child. The city I grew up, the local pool floor in the locker/toilet area was almost a pool itself. Absolutely covered with hair and used plasters 🤢 It was like an assault course.

The obsession around gyms and working out nowadays, it’s gone a bit cult-like? Especially when most film themselves working out and wear virtually nothing while doing it.

Random as a noun. Where the hell did that come from? It's not even used to mean, well, random (by chance) but is used to mean "unknown to me." I wince every time I hear or read it. Yeah, I know the language evolves, but this seems to me the kind of evolution that gave us the spiny anteater.

All those 'singing' and chanting rituals that people have - 'Happy Birthday', 'hip hip hooray', 'for he's a jolly good fellow' and all that shit. 'Auld Lang Syne' is cringey too but mostly people are completely pissed when they sing it so it's not too bad (unless you witness it sober).

The juxtaposition of these two comments in the thread gave me a bit of ick.

People sitting next to me crossing their legs so their foot is resting on their knee with the bottom of their shoe pointing towards me. Gives me the absolute ick and rage.
