Silly returns question…

I bought something from Amazon 2 weeks ago (children’s toy). It was half the price I paid today in smyths so I bought it and opened a return with Amazon.

I have them both out and I’ve muddled up which one I bought from Amazon and which one I bought from smyths! They’re identical items… will it matter?! I don’t want Amazon to reject the return!

How would they know? If the barcode is the same, it's the same thing and it will make no difference.

RocknRollBand · 20/11/2025 21:00

No. The only shop I know of who can identify a single item by the bar code is Next.

CalmShaker · 20/11/2025 21:01

Well why don't you take them both back to Smyths and get a refund and you'll be back where you started. Then order again from Amazon

Sorry ignore the above

Amazon won't even open the return. They'll just chuck it out.
You'll get the refund as soon as you post the item.

That’s not true. Sometimes you do get a refund as soon as you post the item, if you have an established and reliable history but if you sent a potato back instead of the item, they follow that up,with you and attempt to charge your account. They don’t ‘chuck’ items out. In fact, there is a,whole section on Amazon, warehouse, for returns that can’t be resold at full price.

I think it might be next throwing me off as I did a return of an online order there a month or so ago and it knew who I was by the item. I have no personal info to the self serve returns and it blew my mind!
