Inspiration please- what colour mantelpiece?

I’ve recently changed the vinyl flooring in the dining room and feel that the colour of the mantelpiece now looks too grey. Can’t decide whether to go bold, or just a more creamy/beige tone.
The wallpaper is only on the chimney breast, the rest of the room is a creamy magnolia whose exact name escapes me.
The footstool in the foreground is covered with the same teal stretch covers as the little sofa set and overall, I’m very happy with the room as it is.
It’s all very low budget- the mantelpiece was bought for a fiver and painted with a couple of match pots so F&B would not be my first consideration 😄

i'd paint it the same cream colour as the skirting board - it's in the wallpaper too so goes well

I would remove the bit of skirting board as it looks odd, but the fire surround colour is fine.
FYI the mantelpiece is just the shelf bit at the top. “Mantel” means shelf.

Thank you for the clarification, I sometimes use fire surround (which may also be incorrect) but it’s what I was used to when growing up.

I can’t take the skirting board out unfortunately as it’s a rental, although I did toy with the idea of painting it black.

I think painting it black might be a good idea

Managed to find a F&B sample pot in off black that seems to blend pretty well.
Thanks for the input @AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds and @KnickerlessParsons , I’m really happy with the results!

I like it!!

Much better! How come you were allowed to change the flooring in a rental?

It’s HA. The flooring is vinyl, have laminate in some areas and carpets upstairs. People in upstairs flats are not permitted to have hard floors because of noise.
Have a fair amount of freedom, they don’t provide flooring, curtain rods or white goods like in private rentals. Anything I do that they’re not happy with they expect to be corrected at the end of the tenancy.
