What the fuck is this illness. Covid?

Has anyone else had this absolute abomination of a virus recently? Symptoms:

started off as normal cold, coughing and sneezing
day 2-3 fever from boiling hot to freezing cold shivering
cough mutated into a walrus war cry
mouth tongue and gums burning pain
constant body aches
day 4 every time I cough I can feel it in my rib cage and skull, and it feels like I’m going to tear something in my chest

What the fuck. I had covid in 2021 and it was nowhere near as bad as whatever this is.

It is so grim

I'm around day 16 and still have a bloody headache

Not been that sick for a long time

I had a virus that absolutely wiped the crap out of me. GP did a swab and it came back as positive for HmPV - human Meta Pneumovirus. There is no over the counter test for this, no anti virals for it and it can take weeks to recover.

I cant even climb the stairs since having this, and Im so exhausted weeks on as well.

I’m on day 7. It’s been absolutely horrendous. The temperature last week was 40 and not coming down. Being sick, awful cough, aching, weak, dizzy, temp, the whole lot.

Back at work as I’m making myself but prob shouldn’t be (am self employed).

Flu A is pretty rife right now alongside RSV ( and the usual winter bugs) but a lot of the symptoms people are talking about are more flu like. It’s arrived really early this year and we are seeing a lot of positive results in hospitals.

I hope you will all feel better soon. But could I ask, if you are suffering from one of these horrible viruses, have you had any recent vaccinations? Asking from the POV of trying to ascertain the level of protection they may give.

With Covid the vaccines don't prevent you catching it, but they do reduce the severity of the acute illness and reduce (though I'm not sure by how much exactly) the risk of long term complications like chronic fatigue, strokes and heart attacks. With Flu it depends on whether the vaccine matches well with the variants about at the time, I've heard this year it's about 30 to 40 percent effective. If you really want to avoid getting ill then what's most effective would be getting vaccinated and also wearing an ffp2 or ffp3 mask (the type with the strap round the back of the head) in public indoor places, but I know that can be difficult.
