What the fuck is this illness. Covid?

Has anyone else had this absolute abomination of a virus recently? Symptoms:

started off as normal cold, coughing and sneezing
day 2-3 fever from boiling hot to freezing cold shivering
cough mutated into a walrus war cry
mouth tongue and gums burning pain
constant body aches
day 4 every time I cough I can feel it in my rib cage and skull, and it feels like I’m going to tear something in my chest

What the fuck. I had covid in 2021 and it was nowhere near as bad as whatever this is.

I was 'virusy' ill late September to early October, still feel as if everything is too exhausting. Turned down an invite to an afternoon meal and outing this week as it all seemed too much!

I don’t know but it’s intense .
currently sat here with 38. 1 coughing my lungs out . And shall we talk about the SORE THROAT, like swallowing a mixture of knives and lava razor blades . If it’s flu I’m glad I had the jab. But what I’ll say is that I work at hospital and we keep testing patients and I could swear they have flu , and they tests both covid and flu keep coming back negative 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️so it’s either something else or the test aren’t picking up this variant . I don’t know how the actual tests work though , just that it looks like flu or covid but we aren’t picking it up 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ it’s bad though

Well if your ill it doesnt matter if its covid or another nasty virus just stay off work

To spread it around?!

I don't come in a 5m radius of anyone at work but am held accountable if I don't turn up and it is not a place where anything less than hospitalisation is considered an excuse.

TeenLifeMum · 19/11/2025 22:15

I find Covid comes with a distinct headache - I’ve had it last week and now I’m feeling better but still low energy and recovering. Luckily our work policy is too wfh if you’re ill but well enough to work. Last Friday I went full 2020 wfh style in pjs with a jumper so I was respectable on teams calls.

Northcoastmama · 19/11/2025 22:20

My toddler was in hospital all weekend because we, and they, could not get the fever down. I’ve never seen him so ill and other small children in with the same thing

CurlyhairedAssassin · 19/11/2025 22:24

Whatever I had at the start of October has never really gone away fully, I seem to start to feel better then a few days later my nose starts running again or I start coughing again or I have a slight temp and up it all starts again. Bloody sick of it now. As is my poor colleague who has to listen to me trying to hack up the phlegm on my chest every morning.

I can’t work out if it’s just one thing or my immunity is so shot I’m picking up one thing after another.

It is utter hell

Where does one get a covid test these days? We both WFH and I don’t want to send DH to a shop to possibly spread it. I’ll check Amazon.

Got one from Amazon. Mine was negative , I think it’s a strain of flu. I was in bed nearly a week. Horrendous.

OrangesCinammonIvy · 19/11/2025 22:43

Are the flu jabs even covering the strains this year ?

Beesandhoney123 · 19/11/2025 22:55

I don't know if it's flu or covid that I had. It was AWFUL. Two days feeling like crap, then a dull headache which quickly turned to a constant blinding painful migraine type thing over one eye. Collapsed into bed in darkened room. Didn't move for two days, except to replace cold compress on head. No medicine worked. Sips of water between projectile vomiting.

Pain in limbs so bad could not sleep. Threw up everywhere without warning, dh had to clean it up, and he slept on the sofa for three nights to keep away from me. Then upset tummy. Walking to loo was agony for my headache.

Did covid test, negative. Still feel like crap. Chest is awful, back at work but cannot wear bra as chest too painful and tight. Still no appetite.

I've noticed lots of people wearing masks again, in the supermarket.

I'm rarely poorly and an outdoor person. It was terrifying to be so ill.

USaYwHatNow · 19/11/2025 23:05

Yep. Had it at Xmas whilst heavily pregnant and the cough was so painful it brought me to my knees each time. So grim. The cough actually lasted 12 weeks and I had to have an x ray and antibiotics once baby was born. Not fun.

catownerofthenorth · 19/11/2025 23:14

It’s flu. Rife

I heard that this years flu strain has affected kids really badly in Aus.

punnedout · 20/11/2025 12:57

Yes! I have this now and I feel so shit. Genuinely worried about how I’m going to collect the kids later

LushLemonTart · 20/11/2025 17:16

It doesn't matter what virus it is why spread it? I don't understand this obsession of it being covid or not? It's a hideous virus.

GumFossil · 20/11/2025 17:22

We both had horrible colds a couple of weeks ago that were quite hard to shake. We don’t have any reason to test for Covid.

I've had this cough and cold for a month now. 10 boxes of tissues, 3 cough syrups and I've still got it.

Aligirlbear · 20/11/2025 17:55

My DSis recently had similar symptoms to the ones you are suffering tested negative for Covid and her GP husband suggested it was flu. He said there is a flu virus going around at the moment with these symptoms and it’s miserable and seems to take ages to get over it.

my daughter has this. her second day in bed. she is 25 and has cystic fibrosis so Dr is on high alert and given her some hefty meds to ensure it doesnt develop as a secondary infection.

Hope she is on the mend soon. Can’t imagine how awful she must feel with this virus plus cystic fibrosis 💐

Delatron · 20/11/2025 18:51

Flu has definitely hit earlier this year and apparently it’s a very bad strain. I thought it strange they were doing the flu vaccinations very early in school. Last year it was January which did seem ridiculous.

Sympathies to everyone suffering.

@Nofuckingziti you said you didn't want to risk dh spreading it.
