What the fuck is this illness. Covid?

Has anyone else had this absolute abomination of a virus recently? Symptoms:

started off as normal cold, coughing and sneezing
day 2-3 fever from boiling hot to freezing cold shivering
cough mutated into a walrus war cry
mouth tongue and gums burning pain
constant body aches
day 4 every time I cough I can feel it in my rib cage and skull, and it feels like I’m going to tear something in my chest

What the fuck. I had covid in 2021 and it was nowhere near as bad as whatever this is.

Flu or covid, either way it sounds awful and both can be very dangerous.

Just a reminder for those on the thread who are poorly but not bedridden saying they did a covid test before seeing vulnerable/elderly families - one off lateral flow tests during the course of the illness only have about a third of a chance of detecting it. There was a reason they used PCR tests at the height of the pandemic. An lft is actually more likely to miss covid than it is to pick it up. If otherwise healthy kids are ill, that's a good indication it is flu.

Either way, flu or covid or something else nasty, hope you feel better soon OP.

I hate to say it but I am on day seven and the worse day so far was yesterday!

I got so hot last night that I threw off all of the bedclothes, and in the morning, my cough had subsided and I thought I was on the mend.

Tonight though, I am back to feeling weak and strange again!

I’m an old bird though so hopefully you recover more quickly 👍

I’ve woke up today with a headache sore throat then was sick and have been freezing all day but sweaty

You can be asymptomatic with any flu. Scary.

Has anybody else got a cough that’s more like an involuntary spasm deep in their chest - almost like dry retching but not from the stomach?

thank you to those offering support to DD - dont wish to derail OPs post. She slept most of yesterday, her temp was only hovering at 38 so not spikey. she was sick in the morning and complaining that every part of her hurt. But she managed a little bit of food last night and is keeping her fluids up. Still in bed now, dont really expect to see her before lunchtime

I was told that there'll be some protection for the worst of the symptoms but it won't stop you getting it. The vaccine was based on the Australian flu winter outbreak, but the strain in the Northern Hemisphere is said to be more potent.

I had Haemophilius Influenzae 2 years ago. It was horrendous. Took me 6 months to recover fully.
I only found out as the doctor took a sputum sample.
I was vomiting, constant temp, phlegm was off the charts and I felt so achey and ill. I was out of action for a month and only fully well by the summer.
I think they vaccinate against it in the states.

Anyway, might be worth a sputum sample if a covid test is negative?

I’m on week two 😞 which is just as bad as week one unfortunately.

I’ve felt like shit since Tuesday. Went for a shower yesterday and had to lie down afterwards. Surviving on night nurse and ice lollies.

Hope we are all better soon. Am amazed I’ve avoided it this long with all the hacking, coughing, sneezing and sniffing (without hankies) there has been on public transport. People are grim

Anyone else playing symptom bingo seem to be ticking off a new one each day started Thursday headache sore throat was sick freezing cold Friday no sickness had the runs sore throat headache freezing until bedtime hot restless legs. Today headache sinus pain achy and felt spaced out and a bit dizzy the only thing that has been consistent is the headache and sore throat and struggling to sleep despite being exhausted dreading to think what tomorrow will bring

it probably lack of sleep but i have felt utterly miserable and sorry for myself today and I am only on day 3

Also seem have a cold sore not had one in years and my usual moisturiser made my skin tingle so rinsed it off didn’t apply it round my nose or cold sore and I don’t have sensitive skin normally

Yes exactly, im on day 7 and it’s been a different thing each day. The echoing skeleton shaking cough is the only thing that’s been consistent.

Thoughts and prayers to all other poor bastards who have this. I’m losing the will to live now.

Have this right now and negative for covid but assuming it’s flu or a Covid strain that isn’t as easily detected on home tests. My kids and I are all sick with it but not sick enough so far to warrant seeing anyone to actually test or get medicine. A humidifier has been really helpful for us. My kids had off stomachs for a few days also.

This has been our exact experience too, along with us all having upset stomachs also when respiratory things don’t usually cause that for us. It came on suddenly last week too with a sudden razor blade throat so I went from fine in the morning to feeling off by the evening and the next day waking up like I’d been hit by a bus. We all have green mucus and terribly dry throats and coughs now too. My baby and I both had pink eyes for 2 days so it is like sickness bingo. A week out and still feeling rough.

Is it an extra vaccine? I have never heard of it. We are all sick and had our flu vaccines.

Sounds more like flu than covid to me.

@sillysalamander I'm not sure if it's extra as I don't know anything about US vaccines. I remember reading somewhere they vaccinate against it in the states but I don't know if it's true.

Day 8 and still coughing 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫still blowing my nose. Admittedly though I managed to sleep 5 hours straight last night which is a plus . Before I was up every hour having a half hour coughing fit. On my second box of bronchostop, blackcurrant lemsip has become my new favourite brew and I’m actually starting to get back pain from having to sleep downstairs on the sofa otherwise I keep DH and DD awake with my the lovely cough .

DH is on week 4 and spent most of the weekend in bed and he's off work again today.

I'm on week 4 today and in work but keeping all my energy for work so cancelled the gym, meet ups etc.

I’ve now started with a cough now still can’t sleep as I’ve still got an awful headache I can’t shift. I’ve had to change the bedding as despite being freezing I’ve been sweating. I thought I was starting to feel better yesterday but feel worse today.
