If it's not appendicitis, what is it?

I woke up with a stitch like feeling in my right hand side yesterday morning. It got a bit worse throughout the day but never terrible and could manage without painkillers. It 'peaked' at 4.30 and then by bedtime had almost gone.

It was back again through the night but did esse after I went for a wee. But it's starting up again now.

I am not constipated nor do I have diarrhea. I am not nauseous. No temp/fever. Slightly light headed yesterday. Eating as normal.

It isn't worse when I cough. I can stand on my right leg.

It is in a very specific place. I can poke about most of my abdomen and it doesn't hurt but if you get the exact spot it really hurts. It's a very sharp pain and almost pulses in that it is sharp and then subsides over and over. Releasing pressure makes no difference. It didn't start near my belly button, it has been in the same spot the whole time.

I'm on day 5 of my cycle so I don't think it's ovulation pain (which I'm used to).

My period was 4 days late this month (only happened once before other than my pregnancies) but extremely unlikely I'm pregnant as I have a coil, DH had a vasectomy a year ago. I did so 2 (very cheap) pregnancy tests, both negative. My period was normal when it arrived.

This pain is absolutely manageable but it is not normal for me.

I would look very silly if I walked into A&E and it doesn't even warrant a GP call yet.

Any ideas? Do we think it's just an ovarian cyst (the type that goes away on its own)?

My DS had appendicitis for four days that wasn't especially painful. He does martial arts and was able to do a sparring competition without pain. I took him to the GP who sent us to A&E. They took bloods which were only slightly abnormal and the reviewing surgeon said she didn't think it was appendicitis but would scan him anyway. US showed clearly that it was appendicitis and it was removed that evening. So don't rely on not much pain = not appendicitis

I have had similar to what you described and it was a ruptured ovarian cyst. They will do blood tests and scan you to check it is that and not appendicitis or an ovarian torsion (twisted ovary)

I wouldn’t go to A&E with a stitch like pain. See the GP during normal hours. I had a ruptured, gangrenous appendix and I was in agony, vomiting etc for 2 days. I did wait until day 2 stupidly to go to out of hrs because of the weekend, but really I should have gone in sooner (and surgeon made that very clear!) as I was on the floor in agony. 5 months after that I had my gallbladder removed too. I’d see how pain goes, but see the GP if continues.

I think this is probably the most likely explanation. I've read they can rupture due to 'strenuous" activity. I went to see Five at the weekend and was jumping around like a teenager.

I don't have any significant bleeding so I presume it'll just sort itself out over a few days?

Don't worry, I'm in the "don't go to A&E unless your leg is hanging off" camp.

I haven't been to A&E for myself since I broke my ribs in a car crash as a teenager. And that was because the paramedics that were called to the crash insisted. I'd have taken myself home to bed (albeit I was in shock). There has to be a serious problem before I'll call the GP.

There is nothing about my current circumstances that feel emergent. There is, however, something that is not normal for me which may or may not sort itself out.

My DD (26) kept getting a pain, lower right hand side, and we assumed appendix. The pain was bad but It was occasional though, and that made us wonder because we thought appendix would be continuous. Anyway, after badgering the GP and getting tests, it did turn out to be an ovarian cyst. They didn't want to do anything immediately but it grew and they eventually removed it. They can hurt like hell without rupturing.

None of us are medical experts though, so do get yours checked out independently OP.
