Car insurance for young person after living abroad

My mid twenties daughter has just come back from living in Canada for several years where she had a Canadian licence. Before that she had a UK driving licence and 5 years experience.
She is now back in the UK and we would like to put her on our car insurance temporarily while she is job hunting. I’ve tried to add her to our car insurance but she doesn’t seem to fit into any box.
Does anyone have practical experience of what is the best way to proceed.

She still has a UK license even if she lived abroad - just put the number of years since she passed her test?

She had to surrender it in Canada to get licence. She is still eligible for UK licence but not for a couple of months. In the mean she can drive here with Canadian licence

My son lives abroad. When he’s back I put him on one of our insurances for the short time he’s here. We’re with the NFU and I declare the situation (as per your daughter, had to surrender UK licence) it has always had to go to the underwriters but it’s never come back an issue. We’ve been with the NFU for years and years for commercial and private insurances but I’m sure that doesn’t make any difference.

You need to phone the insurance company and speak to a real person. Then ask them to confirm by email.

Most insurers won’t count the no claims bonus earned abroad, either you start from zero or hunt around for an insurer who will eg Adrian Flux, NFU. Usually premiums will be higher. They will ask when you started living in the U.K.- your return date.
