I have been hearing a banging coming from my boiler, usually when it’s not even on, it sounds like someone tapping, or clanging pots and I am renting so is this something I can fix myself or do I need to ring the housing association?

If you are renting it is the property owners responsibility to fix the boiler.

I wouldn't use it. Do you know how to bleed radiators? If not, Google it. It could be air trapped in the system.
