What’s the likelihood of my hospital outpatient appointment being cancelled tomorrow?

I’ve been on the waiting list for this appointment, with a consultant (or at least it should be!) for 14 months.

Over the past 7-10 days, I’ve had two texts to ask if I’m still attending, plus two phone calls - one from admin and one from someone who introduced themselves as a doctor.

I’ve just realised there is strike action this week. Do you think they were calling me to hope I’d cancel? Just wondering how likely it is that they might cancel on me last minute?

They would have cancelled it already. A news report I heard said the majority of out patients appointments were being kept.

Yep, they’d have cancelled it last week.

According to the nurses on my mum’s ward they’re back tomorrow but given the work that’s backed up it will take days/weeks to clear.

These are the nurses that have kept wards running for 5 long days having to support patients in pain with interminable delays for drug changes and treatment plans for very sick people.

It’s very hard to feel sympathy for the striking doctors. I bought a box of posh Marks biscuits for the nurses station and listened while they had a quiet, but certainly not unjustified moan this afternoon.

They won’t cancel but sounds like they are sick of people not turning up. It must be really frustrating when you’ve got a long waiting list and then people just don’t turn up.

if they haven't cancelled it then it will be going ahead unless something unforeseeable happens in the meantime (like consultant sickness).

Advice on the news was attend your appointment unless you hear otherwise. Good luck x

It went ahead, only an hour delay 😉
