DD(9) shooting abdominal pains

DD woke up perfectly fine, but is now in a lot of pain which is in the lower abdomen. She has described the pain as shooting and it is causing her to tear up. It’s to her left side of her abdomen, between the belly button and hip. The pain comes when she is totally still and seems to come in waves. I have given her calpol 10 mins ago so waiting to see how that works, but I’m considering a&e. What could this be? Any ideas?

Constipated? Honestly, if she's in that much pain, A&E. Go now before all the sporting injuries arrive.

Appendix?

DilemmaDelilah · 16/11/2025 12:18

Wrong place for appendix.

A few questions before anyone can give an educated opinion on what to do:
When did she last do a poo?
what kind of poo was it? (hard, runny, normal)
When did she last eat?
What did she eat?
does she have a temperature?
When did she last drink?
do you think she has had enough to drink?

as a NON-medical person if she doesn't have a temperature this sounds like a bowel issue and could be something as simple as wind, especially if she is constipated, but it could be something else.

If you know she is constipated try giving her something to make her 'go' and make sure she has plenty of water to drink. NOT fizzy drinks as they will make wind worse. And some paracetamol in whatever form she will take it to make her feel more comfortable.
