Are we ever going to find out who actually made the monumental fuck up? Rather than just a homogenous apology from the top.

Is this person/people still working for them?

I actually understand why Trump is doing this. You can't just let something so wrong pass by or they'll just keep doing it.

A composite image shows a picture of Trump in a blue suit and yellow tie on the left, and a picture of BBC offices in London on the right

Trump says he will sue BBC for at least $1bn over Panorama edit

The US president confirmed he intends to sue the broadcaster for at least $1bn over the Panorama edit of a 2021 speech.

In fact the GLP would be more justified in complaining that the BBC are determined to smear people from China and India as potentially being involved with the rape gangs.

EmpressSisi · 15/11/2025 11:38

I don’t need a media outlet doctoring speeches or twisting the narrative to make me dislike Trump. I dislike him based on his own words and actions. They’re supposed to be neutral and truthful, and in this case they’ve failed. So I can’t say I’m bothered that he’s suing them, aside from the fact that any payout will come from the licence payer. If I could opt out of the licence fee, I absolutely would.

BBC "accuracy"

Bobbinog · 15/11/2025 11:23

So you think its okay to do things that are wrong as long as its against 'bad' people?
What worries me about that stance is who gets to define 'bad'.

Good point.

Trump certainly appears to believe that to be the case. And Trump has a galactic width definition of what " bad people" are, that he himself slots into.

" You see the mob takes the 5th": DJT

And who took the 5th ?

Sorry, I know that's a whataboutuism of sorts.

He is on record all over. Orders an airstike on "bad people".

Describes hecklers as " bad people", tells the cops to take them outside and not be gentle.

By Trumps definition, he is a bad person, and by his own logic, bad people should have bad things happen to them.

I’d say QT is for sure

So would you feel better if that was gone? How about the rest of the BBC, right leaning?

PInkyStarfish · 15/11/2025 11:51

Defund the BBC.

I hope Trump takes them for everything.

Rupert as usual is spot on -

IBorAlevels · 15/11/2025 12:05

When I googled it it seemed October Films was the production company, not BBC? I am confused why they aren't being sued either as well or instead - obvs for the big story Trump gets but in legal terms, aren't they more at fault?

LilySad91 · 15/11/2025 12:09

Because the BBC commissioned and broadcast it. They also would have full editorial rights over it. They also repeatedly chose to do nothing when warned about it

I get they will be sued, because of the editorial rights, but do we know they definitely did that specific part of the edit, or was it there and potentially they missed it?

I thought you meant another Rupert, the one Trump is sueing for 15 billion USD.

The suit a Judge threw out.

But no, you mean the reform fella.

I actually think the BBC is probably as good as it gets to be honest. You hear as many people on the left complain as on the right.
i have stopped watching QT over the past few months as Bruce is an intolerable host and whether it’s her views or the production teams’, there is definitely more time given to Farage and his cronies than anybody else with a sensible point to make.
And I used to like Laura Kuenssberg but she let herself down fawning over Johnson, and she deliberately talks over labour politicians while allowing others to get their points across.
Victoria Derbyshire is excellent though.
I also enjoy a lot of the shows that the BBC puts out so on balance I have no real issues with it and happy to continue to pay the licence fee to stop all the ads 😊

Where did I say that it is okay to do things that are wrong as long as it's against 'bad' people?

There was an implication in your post (as i read it) that the BBC were standing up to a bully rather than editing his speech with bias.

If you didn't mean to imply that then I've misunderstood your post.

I agree with this.
However I do think the trans movement have strong-armed their way forward because of the BBC hiring such a huge proportional amount of them, as well as that complaints desk and LGBTQ dept that pushed stories into the press as their role. If Tim leaving changes that, to make it more representative of the actual people of the UK where only 0.2% of the population are trans and we see a relevant amount of shows or characters or news stories in proportion to that, then fine. I for one would rather see what millions of woman in Sudan are dealing with than have an article on drag queens across the world put on the app, for example.

It's possible they potentially missed it but that already makes them liable to be sued as it was their job to commission something impartial and then go over it to make sure it was impartial.

But what's potentially more damaging for the BBC legally is that staff repeatedly raised concerns about it after the broadcast, at every level of management, and they were ignored. And that went on for months until last week when a whistleblower released it all to the press.

AS if we didn't know.

But this isn't true. At the time my OH read s widely what pro economists were writing. He wasn't finding them difficult to find. Also the Beeb, to my recollection, did not present them as if they were equal, they made it clear how many economists they felt were against it. They also have huge weight to sell the Project Fear claims.

Does anyone else remember the threatened "punishment budget”?

AzurePanda · 15/11/2025 13:14

@Imdunfer it absolutely wasn’t true. The fact that it took the BBC so long to find a pro Brexit economist simply reflected their list of contacts.

Pedallleur · 15/11/2025 13:16

At best 3 grifters who admire dictators, how will that make the world better?

Catsandcheese · 15/11/2025 13:19

But Brexit been proved to be terrible for the economy. There are absolutely no upsides whatsoever.

Yes I don't think History has been kind to Brexit, rather has proven the point of Remain.
Was seeing all the illegal meat they keep finding at Dover (which still hasn't caught up to where it needs to be) and wondering how much of the market is flooded with it already.

I worked for 3 big companies 2016-2022.

Not a single board member of any had anything nice to say about Brexit.

That's about 25 business leaders.

Is that the same Rupert who claimed he’d spotted a migrant boat which turned out to be a charity challenge? Unfortunately I often get alerts when he tweets, I most definitely would not describe the vast majority of the stuff he spouts as “spot on”.

It’s not about history being kind to it. There’s nothing to be kind about!
People were told it would be a disaster and it is.
The problem with the electorate is they get rightly pissed off about things and just use the next vote to express that. They’re not thinking about the actual problems and how to solve them.
And if we are stupid enough as a country to vote next time as the polls suggest, we are just repeating the brexit mistake all over again. Reform couldn’t run a bath.
Having said I don’t watch QT, I did see a clip of Ken Clarke saying that some of the people elected as Reform councillors didn’t even know that council meetings were held in the day, so they had to either give up their jobs or quit. 🤯

You can't call them stupid.
