What makes a good impression? I'm meeting dead beat sons family

I'm meeting my child's father family who's had nothing to do with "our" child.

It's just the sister but I guess it's better than nothing.

I'm horribly overweight now and I'm tired. Just worried about what rlto chat about and to do.

Child is 2 years and has no contact .

I'd avoid using the expression "dead beat"

They should be trying to make a good impression on you, not the other way around!

Arlanymor · 14/11/2025 19:39

You don't need to make a good impression, just be yourself. Surely if his family have not bothered in two years, they are the ones (or one) who should be on their best behaviour? That said, obviously it's not the sister's fault that her brother is useless. I think just talk about common ground - which is wanting the best for your child.

What else do I refer to him on mums net without writing 20 paragraphs and than being told I'm drip feeding lol.

Bless you, it's nice of you to do this for your child and I am sure they will appreciate it one day!

Just because her brother is a dick, she might not be. My recent ex was a dead beat but his sister really had it together.... I would never have suspected they were related.

Don't worry about weight - who cares? And she will most want to talk about your son her nephew, I am sure. And may offer you some support, which if you feel comfortable accepting could be great.....

Thank you. I guess I just feel like she's going to go back to the family and talk about me etc.

Well you have no control over that, but also not your circus, not your monkeys. Hopefully a good relationship with the sister will come from this and you'll have another ally?

I thought you were calling your son a dead beat - but he's only 2- so I'd assume mosf of the focus will be on him at the meeting.
