Who pays?

A close friend has a big birthday coming up. In our group when this happens someone usually arranges a meal out, we each pay for our own and split the birthday girl’s meal costs between us. This time the birthday girl has arranged the meal herself and invited us. I’m not clear whether that means she us paying for us all, like if she threw a party at her home, or if we are all chipping in. I don’t want to put my foot in it.
What should I expect? Do you think she is planning to pay for it all? I think she could afford it. Does the fact that she’s invited us instead of the usual arrangements make it different?

Ask? She’s your close friend, just text her.

Just send her a text saying sounds lovely, are we all paying for ourselves?

Ask her.

If the plan has always been that you eat at a restaurant and split the birthday person’s meal between you all, I think it would be a bit mean not to do it for her. It doesn’t really matter who has phoned up the restaurant to book it.
