Thinking of you! Have you made sure that the kettle, tea bags, and milk is easily accessible when you get to the new place? Speaking from past experience…

MagpiePi · 14/11/2025 06:17

Me too!

After being in absolute despair thinking it was all going to fall through earlier this week, we got exchanges done yesterday. I feel quite calm now knowing I don’t have to think about sorting things out to a deadline.

I’m just annoyed that it is tipping down here and everything is going to be wet.

Rather you then me moving sucks. Good luck. Also Good luck to @MagpiePiaswell. Just think of that chinese takeaway tonight when its all done

iamthehotstepper · 14/11/2025 06:26

Good luck! We finally exchanged yesterday after weeks of uncertainty and stress and finally moving nrxt week. First sold our house in January so its been a long time coming. As you say, never again. Hope today goes without a hitch!

MagpiePi · 14/11/2025 06:45

@iamthehotstepper thats worse than me! 💐 I’ve only been waiting since April.

It’s the uncertainty towards the end that is the killer. My neck and shoulders have been rigid for about 3 weeks.

MinnieMountain · 14/11/2025 06:47

Good luck OP.

How long is your chain?

MagpiePi · 14/11/2025 07:04

There are 7 of us.
My vendors are moving to an empty property so are the top, but they have been causing most of the angst.
I think there were 8 or 9 in the chain but then as we seemed to be nearing the end of all the legal proceedings in August my vendors pulled out of their sale and found this empty property, so that put it all back again. Then they’ve been faffing about moving dates and didn’t seem to be at all concerned that mortgage offers were expiring for people further down the chain because we’d been waiting so long.

How many in yours?

MinnieMountain · 14/11/2025 07:40

I’m a residential property solicitor, so I was just curious.

CalmShaker · 14/11/2025 07:44

Best of luck,
Will you actually be leaving your old house today too or have you been in storage/renting for awhile?

Dearg · 14/11/2025 07:45

Good luck all. Hope you will all be happy in your new homes.

We moved a year ago - I have finally reached the point of clearing out the little bedroom where I put all the things I didn’t know what to do with. Off to the skip they go.

Part exchanging and going to new build so it was a 5 week process from first viewing to moving in, really can’t complain on that front. No chain at all. Good luck/ well done all!

Wow, 8 or 9, that’s incredible.

No, we left our home too. Dh only had the day off so I’ve done all the packing (poorly) with a 3yo and 6mo. We were very under packed and there was a lot of “just chuck it in a bin bag”.

As much as we tried to be brutal with decluttering, there were so many things coming off the van that I just thought “where the hell is that going to go??”. I think there will be a lot more free cycling/ dump runs in our near future.

Congratulations on your new home.

My advice is the first job you do on arrival, is make the beds.

That way, at the end of a long, hard day, you can just collapse into bed, and not face the task of having to make them. 😊

Good advice! You’re so right!

I had a nightmare - overstretched removals company meant they didn’t have enough competent men on the job so didn’t finish loading my stuff till about 3pm, so my buyers were having to wait. (They were lovely about it) The same removals company were doing my sellers and were going even more slowly - they still had a full garage of stuff to load at about 5:30pm, so I ended up staying with friends overnight and they moved my stuff in on Saturday.

I thought I’d be really emotional about saying goodbye to my family home but it was all so wet and cold and stressful that I kind of missed the moment.

Yes I did too. We had until 6pm to get the van back and at 5.15pm we were still loading the van and had to drive it to the new place and unload before driving it back. I was therefore sprinting through the house, hoovering and mopping tears streaming down my face as I said goodbye to the place my babies were born without being able to stop and sit in the moment. I really do kind of regret it, actually.
