I'm in hospital nothing too serious this time but having a absolutely awful night. The ladies can't help it on the ward but I am an awful sleeper best of time and everything that's going off on the ward is keeping me awake.
How are you?
What's keeping you up?

Hello

Ah its awful being in Hospital and trying to sleep.

Can you ask if the nurses have a comfort pack?
It has a eye mask and soft ear plugs inside.

If not, and your still in for tomorrow night can you ask someone to bring some in for you

wherewillwegoto · 14/11/2025 02:29

Hi I'm still awake. Sorry you're in hospital, hope you can go home soon. Have you got ear plugs or headphones with you?

I'm awake because I'm in pain and my mind is over active. I've got a long awaited holiday booked for December but I'm getting really nervous about it.

Willorwisp · 14/11/2025 02:30

Im up, occasionally I can’t sleep, tonight is the night, I often fall asleep when the tv is on so I now try and go to sleep with Lucy Worsley on in the background on bbc iPlayer (and the timer to switch off after twenty minutes).

Ihad2Strokes · 14/11/2025 02:30

I'm sorry you're in hospital, I'm glad it's not 'too serious' but the 'this time' is worrying.

hospitals are hopeless for getting any sleep

other patients are bad enough, but the staff drove me insane

im awake now because since my stroke in January my insomnia has been much worse.

FFSToEverythingSince2020 · 14/11/2025 02:32

I’m so sorry! I sleep absolutely horribly when I’m hospital too so I hear you, OP. I’m up with pain and bleeding that I’m afraid could wind me in the hospital tomorrow, so I have so much sympathy for you.

No way would my local hospital have had those.

i couldn't have slept with ear plugs in, feel vulnerable enough without blocking all sound.

I'm sorry & I hope you don't end up in hospital tomorrow 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Me too!!! Thank you! I really hope you can get some sleep. I’ve had a few TIAs, not full strokes, and they cause terrible insomnia, so I can only imagine what you’re going through. I hope some sleep arrives soon!

Thank you. I must put my phone down & count sheep or something...

Ihad2Strokes · 14/11/2025 03:42

Hopefully the OP has managed to fall asleep!!

Bluecrystal2 · 14/11/2025 04:13

It's so difficult to sleep in hospital. Hopefully you can get a nap during the day. Hope you will be home soon and tucked up in your own bed.

I've been up since 1am. I have a meeting with a builder this morning. Am going to ask for £2000 back because of a bodged job. He lied, overcharged and damaged my neighbour's house.

Always something. Get well soon.

UncertainPerson · 14/11/2025 04:17

Wishing you so well OP and hoping you’re asleep now. Hope your recovery is speedy 💐

I’m up because despite having a company in to survey and remove artex asbestos they missed a bit and DH has sanded it and we have all been exposed. I’ve no idea how to come to terms with it.

These are precisely the reasons I am awake. I am in pain and so worried about how it’s going to impact my trip.

wish I could turn my brain off.

Stuckinhospital · 14/11/2025 05:47

Sorry I managed to fall off.
I'm currently using my thickest sleep mask to catch winks when I can. Unfortunately, there is a lot of dilerium and etc on this particular ward so plenty of noisy activities going off.
These hours feel very lonely don't they?

I’ve been awake since 4am as my dog has been unwell and I can’t sleep. Have you managed to get any more sleep?

Oh god I'm really sorry x

I was told the tiles, on my floor, under my carpet were not aesbestos, when the carpet fitter arrived to lay the new carpet he (understandably) refused to fit it because he thought they may well be. In the meantime I'd removed them from the bathroom before the tiler came. Not worrying about a few of them breaking etc.

I 'come to terms' with it by hoping for the best & gradually, over time , forgetting about it (until I read something like your post) it took quite a while though before it wasn't at the front of my mind.

i wonder if there's now any testing you can have (on yourselves) ? Or if there's any preventative action you can take?

Good Luck! Let us know how you get on!

I've just got £850 back and am happy with that. It ended on a good note.

Sleep is the most healing thing and I can't understand why they can't keep the chatter and lights down at night. I really feel for those that are stuck in hospital. You're not missing much out here, wet, dull and miserable outside.

Get home quickly. I'm wishing you all nothing but the best.

Well I'm glad you're happy with the outcome. Are the neighbours ok with everything?

@Stuckinhospital don't be sorry you fell asleep, it's what we were all hoping for you. I hope you manage to get some naps in today.

the staff standing around in the ward chatting loudly in their own language at night & general clattering around letting metal bin lids drop & door slam etc drive me insane.

we had wandering patients & loud ones, but that's all understandable & not an issue, but the staff should know better!! I know it's their working hours (their day) but some respect for it not being ours & we're trying to sleep to get better would be good.

Hope you're home soon.

@FFSToEverythingSince2020 how are you doing today? Have you been able to stay home or had to go in??

Bluecrystal2 · 14/11/2025 12:39

Ihad2Strokes: I had only ever said hello to the neighbour, but I cried in front of him and that broke the ice. We're now friends and he's a lovely man (pity he's too young for me).

stuckinhospital: Yeah! the clattering trays and loud conversations - brings back horrible memories. I hope the people in your bay are nice and you can have a good old natter. I suppose the place is busy with visitors now.

madaboutpurple · 14/11/2025 13:08

You could contact Pals at the hospital and let them know that staff chatting in the night prevents patients from sleeping. With any luck they could be asked to be quieter.

Stuckinhospital · 14/11/2025 16:46

'Problem' is when your not the most poorly on the ward surrounded by the most poorly you really notice everything and to be honest can be very scary
Some of the conversations that I overheard when nurses/care workers thought I was asleep about the other patients was sad.

Bluecrystal2 · 14/11/2025 20:48

The worst place to be is near the nurses station. I hope you get a good night tonight.

ChocolateAndCrispsAndBiscuits · 15/11/2025 03:36

Hope all those that were awake and sleeping soundly tonight
