18th Birthday Present for Nephew

I am a bit stuck for a special present for my nephew who is 18 in the next couple of weeks. For my neices I have given jewellery - usually with a birthstone, but I can't think of male equivalent (I wish we lived in a world where I could give him the same, but I suspect he would be a bit nonplussed).

He is already being given a watch by family members and I am going in on another present with others - but would like to give him something "forever" from us.

Any thoughts? He is into his sport, particularly football and gaming, but these aren't very inspirational

How about a simple silver or gold ring . I bought a nice silver ring with his initials on for my DS from Etsy .otherwise at that age money will be appreciated!

oh a ring is nice - but I will have to work out how to size it.

He always gets money - this is more to mark a significant birthday.

Is he practical? A leatherman multitool is a great present if so, will last forever plus useful.

He isn't practical, yet, but that is a great present (I want one now!). I need to check as giving penknives and the like is quite common in our family.

Following as in the EXACT same dilemma- only climbing rather than football.
It’s a nightmare 😁

I would think a larger gift of money, my DDs aunts and uncles all gave money towards a car.

Have you checked with his parents what they’re getting him? A watch would be the alternative I’d think. You could get it engraved.

Other family already giving a watch. And no we don't have the money for a significant financial gift.

cufflinks?

A leatherman or swiss army knife is a great idea - check that the main blade isn't too long to take on a plane as hand luggage, and it's a brilliant thing to have for cheapie holidays staying in hostels and having picnics.

Could you stretch to a ticket to a football match and you and/or uncle or cousin go with him, and have a drink afterwards? If you go for a local team it wouldn't have to cost a total fortune like the premier league. I know it's not a keepsake - well apart from the programme - but could be lots of fun for him.

We went for this one and also got the Wingman for other DS…it’s worth getting the nylon sheath too I think as useful to keep it in.

What kind of climbing? Bouldering or climbing? Indoor or outdoor (and if the latter sport vs trad)?
