How much is your weekly shop?

We are a family of 3, 2 adults 1 child (age 4).

In recent months we have had 1 'main' shopping delivery that's normally between £150-£175 and then easily spend another £20 topping up during the week.

It seems eye watering to me, as I'm sure it was about half this last year!

Interested to see if we are around average?

Family of 3 (2 adult men and 1 adult woman) around about £200 a week.
Trying to reduce this to £120 a week and failing miserably!

gamerchick · 13/11/2025 11:15

Depends. A full stock up is about 150 quid ish once a month and between 50-80 quid a week for the other 3 weeks.

I don't use online shopping though

tedibear · 13/11/2025 11:17

Not that long ago it used to be about £100 including nappies, wipes and formula. Now it’s about £165-£175, sometimes more than £200. 2 adults and 2 kids 6&8. Includes alcohol sometimes and all cleaning & toiletries. It’s gone up so much these last 4-5yrs!

I mostly shop at Morrisons and home bargains. Pick up some small shops at Lidl a few times a month.

OrigamiAnimal · 13/11/2025 11:18

2 adults 3 kids and we are at least £250 a week. It's wild.

Hernamesnoelle · 13/11/2025 11:23

I remember pre Covid when it was just me and DH, we used to get these vouchers from Tesco where we would get say, £8 off if we spent £50. And we would struggle to get £50 worth of stuff in the trolley to use it! Those were the days.

1 adult, 2 older teenagers (basically feeding 3 adults). £50 -60 a week. I'm always amazed at the amount people spend on these threads because if you had to (like i do) you could reduce it.
Meal plan, buy in bulk, buy extra when on offer, have a couple of cheap meals a week such as jacket potato and filling, omelette, homemade chips with salad, something on toast. Batch cook. For lunches I make a different vegetable soup each week depending on what vegetables are on offer.
I think it does help to have herbs and spices which I buy in bulk. I shop on line due to disability but this also means no impulse buying, I can check what I have in and work my menu around that and whats on offer.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 13/11/2025 11:25

2 adults approx £75 a week, shopping in Lidl/Aldi.

Digdongdoo · 13/11/2025 11:26

We average £150 a week, 2 adults 3DC. That's all in, top up shops, toiletries, cleaning stuff, alcohol, packed lunches (oldest school dinners an extra £5pw) etc. This is up from £100 or so a couple of years ago, which is a big increase, but we've more growing mouths to feed. We eat very well in my opinion, and though I meal plan and stick to a budget we don't scrimp or go without.

ShesTheAlbatross · 13/11/2025 11:27

Family of 4 (two adults, two young children 3&6).

About £70 at Sainsbury’s for everything inc toiletries and cleaning stuff etc, with maybe some milk and bread bought midweek. We don’t drink so no alcohol. Everything cooked from scratch due to severe allergies in the house.

ETA - eldest gets school lunches 5 days a week, youngest gets pre-school lunches 3 days a week. So that reduces it. Once the elders stops getting free lunches next school year, it will have to go up a bit for her packed lunches.

WorriedDogMum87 · 13/11/2025 11:31

I eat ready meals almost all the time and I don’t feel guilty about it because I’ve got no time or energy to cook

AgentPidge · 13/11/2025 11:36

I've noticed that Sainsburys is way more expensive than it used to be. Even Waitrose is cheaper than Sainsburys for some things. We're spending a fortune. No alcohol. DH only buys organic meat though. You get much more for your money at Aldi, despite Sainsburys' claim to match prices.

TheGriffle · 13/11/2025 11:38

2 adults, 2 children (8 & 12) and 2 cats. Between £150 and £220 a week depending on what we need to stock up on. That’s for all cleaning, cat products, toiletries and cans of pop (we don’t drink alcohol but do go through Pepsi max!)

Eta: that’s for 3 meals a day for everyone (working from home and packed lunches)

Handbagcuriosity · 13/11/2025 11:38

Same as you OP, probably spend £130 max a week. Everything is made from scratch though. Fairly easy and not too fancy stuff but husband has dietary requirements so just easier to do.

LoudPlumDog · 13/11/2025 11:41

Around $100 AUD, 2.5 adults, 1 cat, 1 bird, 2 dogs. No allergies.

OnionBudgie · 13/11/2025 11:43

One adult, around £55 a week from Tesco. Includes alcohol, household products, etc. I'm vegan, so buy lentils, beans and tofu in lieu of meat, and that saves me money. Very little processed stuff, tons of fresh veg.

Clingfilm · 13/11/2025 11:43

Checked my banking app last night, we're around £600 a month for equivalent of 4 adults, 1 cat, (too much) booze, all cleaning stuff etc.

Shocking thing was we also spend up to £200 a month eating out as in McDonald's/Greggs when we're all out and about and the odd work meal. And not including college lunch money 😬

We mainly shop at Lidl and we eat fairly basic meals, nothing extravagant.
I definitely only used to spend £60 a week not that long ago. Cost of living and growing kids really has bumped our spend up.

Peonies12 · 13/11/2025 11:45

2 adults, 1 baby who only eats a bit. Get a Tesco delivery once a week, usually about £80. Then a few bits from Waitrose at the weekend, maybe another £20. We could be more careful with food shopping..

stargirl27 · 13/11/2025 11:47

around £150 a week for me and DP... we eat organic/higher quality as much as possible, we don't buy alcohol, we eat out a few times a week

Pranaon · 13/11/2025 11:47

Australia- 2 adults, 1 teen, 2 dogs
$450 per week - about £200
i make my own bread, dog food, cake, biscuits to save costs. Buy in bulk, batch cook, it’s so time consuming but groceries are eye wateringly expensive.

WonderlandWasAllAHoax · 13/11/2025 11:57

About £100 a week for two adults. We could spend less but we have plenty of money so there’s no reason to. We also spend about £80 a month on top for three cats and a dog, including cat litter.

That’s a mixture of Aldi, Morrisons, Tesco and Amazon.

Norfolklass2428 · 13/11/2025 11:57

£150- £175 per week on average 2 adults, 1 teen ( adult portions) and 2 primary school children.

Buy organic meat and dairy where possible.

Shop with Ocado and Sainsbury's online.Sometimes Waitrose.

It always amazes me how people with a family of four or five people claim they can shop for their family for £50-£60 per week.

I do not see how it is possible to shop for that little for a family of four of five people eating nutritious and healthy food. Are those who claim that shop for £50/£60 including breakfast items, lunches, dinners and cleaning products and pet food in their shop?

Statsquestion1 · 13/11/2025 12:01

Family of four in Ireland and I spend somewhere between 80-120 per week. I meal plan and cook from scratch as best I can. I shop at Lidl

They probably don’t waste their money buying organic.

longtompot · 13/11/2025 12:04

Between £200 & £250 most weeks. Four adults, but with dietary restrictions so certain things cost more than usual. We don't tend to top up in the week, and we don't eat out, so this covers everything, including cleaning products

Winteriscoming80 · 13/11/2025 12:06

£220 a week,2 adults,2 tweens,we cut right back last week and spent £130 on half a trolly,its disheartening.
