Do i need a coffee table?

Im trying to sprt my house out, declutter etc. House is victorian emd terrace, from room is about 14ft sq, typical set up, cwntral open fireplace with alcoves either side (which id ideally like to fix shelves in). TV to one side.

Theres a large open space in the middle of the room s d im wondering if a decent sized coffee table would help but i cant picture it.

Do you have a coffee table? Should i have one?

Try mocking one up with some boxes / storage crates.

This has been a phase of life thing for us.

No coffee table when children were age about 1 to 7ish - more floor space for toys and general romping. After that, it became useful again for games, the odd dinner eaten in front of the TV, drinks that could be left out again etc. Now children are grown we could prob manage without again, but that would mean decluttering the bottom shelf so it stays!

I love a big low footstool. It can be pushed aside for playing, kids can lie on it or use it as an extra seat. Big sturdy tray on top and it's a coffee table.

I used to always have a coffee table, and it always ended up with clutter on it.
Swapped it for a large footstool about 3 years ago now and I'd never go back. Looks so much nicer and the foot stool doesn't get covered in clutter.

I do have a shelf behind the sofa and side tables for cups/drinks though. Without them I'd miss somewhere to put my drinks.

We’ve just bought new sofa/chair/footstool. The footstool converts into a table when required.
