Hi! So i self referred in the beginning of november, on the 3rd, i still haven’t heard back from no one. I’m still only 6 weeks pregnant now, but just wondering when should i get contacted to book the appointment? as i presume they wouldn’t contact a day before. just curious and anxious 😅 as i seen people who would get contacted a couple of days after referring themselves. A dilema im going through should i look like a weirdo and contact my gp for info to see if they accepted my referral? or should i wait until next week?
Thank you!

It’s difficult to answer as this will be determined by the area you live in, I understand for privacy you may not want to share but it would help get you an answer.

Contacting your Gp will also get you an answer.

Where I live it’s not a self referral process, the Gp refers you to the community midwife, who then deals with all the future referrals (scans, bloods, Drs etc) however the initial appointment for both my pregnancies was quite short notice, if I remember correctly I got the texts the same weeks as the appointments.

Thank you! i’m in newport in wales. in my first pregnancy this self referral thing wasn’t a thing as well!! so that’s the reason im a bit confused, i contacted gp and they gave me a date for first appointment straight away at the time. now everything is digital which is a bit frustrating as we can’t even speak to no one until we get contacted back😅

All my appointments/communication was through text with my first, then my second they made me download an App & said all communication would be through there - well, technically it was but all my alerts regarding appointments came on the day of them, luckily I was still receiving texts otherwise I would have missed every appointment.

Maternity always seems to be the least organised directorate of any hospital.

Good luck.

I'd wait a bit longer, some areas don't do initial booking appointments til 10 weeks anyway, and scan isn't til after 12 weeks. Our GP has no involvement in midwife services, it's all done separately.

yes i will wait! i just feel awkward contacting as i know the answer is gonna be they still don’t know or they contact me before the 10 weeks. it’s just to much anxiety as i just want pregnancy to be ok, plus i still breastfeed so i don’t know if it’s ok to continue until i speak to a doctor
