This is so outing, to anyone who knows me but I’ll try to keep it factual and short.

childhood sexual abuser was recently jailed. They are a serving a lengthy sentence for what they did.

the case, of course is historic as I am now adult.

i am considering sueing for damages. The impact of what they did to me is large- far reaching psychologically and I now suffer CPTSD. I am additionally very unwell with stress following the court case.

perp eventually admitted guilt on all counts. It is cut and dry, there is no question. He did it and that’s that. I am relieved this nightmare of fighting for justice is over, however, I am now coming to the realisation that now that fight is over- I must face what this means for the rest of my life. Aforementioned health issues now severely impact my career and this now means I cannot afford to continue therapies private therapies I’ve been self funding for the last few years.

I am looking at a No Win No Fee company who specialise in this type of case. They feel I have a strong case, they just need to establish the perpetrators financial assets to consider it worth moving forward with.

I’ve never sued anyone. Hell I’ve never even claimed on an insurance policy.

I feel scared that I will misunderstand and land myself in a financial mess I cannot afford to find myself in. I’m reading the papers and it would seem I can purchase an insurance policy to cover me etc.

is this truly worth me looking into or ? I don’t believe they have a huge amount of assets so don’t even know if I’d be able to proceed and if I did I don’t really understand how payment etc is received etc.

I don’t want to put myself under unnecessary stress. However my closest friend is concerned if I don’t, given it’s already historic, the claim option will time out as it will already be revisited under exceptional circumstances and I will later regret.

if you’ve had experience of No Win No Fee, please share them. Should I call my house insurance and see if legal is covered? I’m unsure they’d even cover given I wasn’t insured at the times of the incidents?

Thank you.

My understanding is that if you are not successful and do not win your case then your solicitor will not charge you. However, you may be liable for the opposing party's costs if costs are awarded against you.
